So by being Made in USA it won't be any less reliable, except that the quality and the fit and finish is inferior to those of Made in Japan? Therefore there is nothing that I should worry about regarding reliablity right?

Thanks!

I suppose it can vary from company to company and model to model- you could always take a look at the Consumer Reports auto issue and see if their survey shows any obvious differences. I'm just basing the fit and finish comments on my own experiences, but I have to admit that the reliability of the Hondas and Toyotas looks pretty amazing wherever the cars are built!

'05, the A/C is cold for like 10 seconds, and then blows warm air for 20 seconds, and then cold for 10.....

although the top does a really good job at keeping the heat out when the A/C is running, its cool to the touch on the inside even though its black.

HONDA's ARE LEGENDARY!!! 200,000 mile motors! Not too sure about the rest of the world but here in HAWAII honda's are abundant here, therefore many mechanics and garages and shops specialize on hondas. Meaning everyone here knows how to fix a honda. In my personal opinion i think hondas are the easiest to work on as awell, not to mention the many parts specified and available for honda. Haha did you ever see the LEGENDARY HONDA CUB... LMAO that thing is indestructable!!! literally. They threw it off a building and it still worked. go to youtube.com and type in HONDA CUB to see!

I wish my 07 SI sedan, made in Canada, was as well put together as my 07 FIT which was made in Japan. The lack of quality workmanship is sorely apparent in that Si. Squeaks, rattles, pops and creaks in the interior. When I mentioned it to my service advisor, he took one look at the VIN plate to see where it was made and said my problems are very common w/ cars made in Canada and the US.

Give me a Japan made Honda any day!

So made in Japan > Made in USA/Canada?

My Dad used to have a 96 Honda Accord EX sedan which was assembled in Ohio and it was far from perfect. Transmission was jerky as heck, the suspension and struts squeaked, and the windshield washer always failed. The size of the car resembled an 8th gen civic, but it handled like a huge recreational boat!!!

Made in Japan doesn't mean better quality for Honda or any other Japanese manufacturers. Just a short while ago, Honda recalled a massive amount of engines that were manufactured in Japan. Suzuki's and Mitshi's cars are all made in Japan and they are the bottom of quality.

They are all made well and there are always a handful of mess ups in any production line. Just think about how the net works - people complain a lot more than post joy. Don't forget even the 14,000 members on the site represent like a month or less of produced vehicles. So every 1 complaint probably equals over 1,000 good cars.

I heard that Ford quality is on par with Toyota for the first time ever. Apparently, Ford vehicles have less problems than Toyota and Honda. Now, I heard this from news section from canadiandriver.com

I would highly recommend a 07 Si, no matter what the country of origin... just don't expect a perfect car. Honda quality is still one of the highest in the industry. The original question was asking about comparing Japan to NA quality. I answered the post in that light. I would never not recommend purchasing a Honda product due to low overall quality standards, which many of the domestic car manufacturing companies seem to have a difficult time matching.

All of the 07 Civic Si's I looked at were built in Canada. (For those not wanting to try and decode the VIN, the window sticker will list where the car was assembled and the percentages of where the parts came from. I do not have my sticker in front of me, but I believe it was something like 60% North American parts and 40% Japanese parts listed on my Si.)

The Si is a fine automobile and I would never tell anyone to stay away from one. All manufacturers have some issues with assembly and/or parts, its a fact of life whether its cars, airplanes, or just about any product imaginable. Honda's reliability is higher than most, and that is was a big draw towards eventually purchasing my Honda. I have been fortunate enough not to have any issues with my Si so far, but as long as Honda takes care of any issues that pop up I will be happy.

I have had cars built in the US and Japan prior to my first Candian one, and both the US and Japanese built cars had warrantee issues taken care of. My worst car for repeating problems was actually a Japanese built car and my best was actually a US built vehicle. In the end, it does not really matter where the car is built as long as the company who built it is willing to back up their warrantee. From what I have read and heard from other Honda owners, Honda does better than most when it comes to warantee work which played heavily into my decision to go with the Si.

Buy what makes YOU happy. :)
