My Dealer Put the Wrong Oil in my Si !!!! HELP !!!!
Hey I got my oil changed this Saturday and I just looked at the receipt today (Monday) and it shows a charge of $19.95 for 5W-20 oil !! I didn't even think about asking or making sure that they use the right oil viscosity for the Si..they are a Honda dealer for pete's sake! You think they would know what oil to use!!! I was going to call Honda Customer Care and then call the dealership but before I do that I was wondering what you guys would do in this situation. Should I be overly worried about this? I am pissed for sure but I need to know what a good way would be to deal with this situation. Thanks for your help.

Well I don't know which particular person is at fault but that's not my concern. It's the dealerships problem and they need to deal with it. I will definitely be taking it back to get flushed for sure but I was wondering if you think I should make a big deal outta this and try to get something out of this. For instance I have a cracked fog light (my Si is only 3 months old!), should I say hey you guys messed up big time with the oil change so I want to get my fog light replaced for free.

I had the same thing happen to me when I got my oil changed at the dealership so I understand where you're coming from, I had the oil changed the very next day to 5W-30 mobil 1. |

It sounds to me like maybe it was a key punch error or possibly just billed out wrong by someone in the parts department.
I would have to think that the tech who did the oil change put the right oil in your car. Some models obviously take different oils and it's alot easier for the parts department to bill it out wrong rather then have the tech put in the wrong oil. |

There are factors that can affect the performance of a car, such as the type of gas you use. And there are those that will have very little to no change in performance, such as a very minor change in oil viscosity. If using the recommended oil viscosity makes you feel better, that's great but I would not call it a performance upgrade. |

Why did you need to post this? are you so inept that you cannot even think for yourself?
the guy made one of two errors 1) put 5w20 instead of 5w30 in or 2)mistyped it on the workorder The answer to BOTH mistakes is take it back and point out the error, get it removed and put the correct oil in. Geeze talk about a waste of bandwidth. Use some common sense. Its oil, its not like they filled the tank with Diesel fuel or something. *eyeroll* |

My LX says to use 5w-20. I spoke to my dad about this (Honda Service Advisor) and he says that its right. The ONLY difference between 5w-20 and 10w-30 is that 5w-20 is less viscous (thick) and has different climate properties. In todays age where 1 mpg will sell/not sell a car Honda designed the Civic engine to use less viscous oil (meaning more gas mileage). Its in the manual for the car. You can use either.

it's a glitch in the dealership system, my dealership shows 5w-20 too although they put 5w-30. call and ask to speak with the tech, he'll explain... hopefully
