Good oils
I did of bit of looking around on the net about what is the best oil to use in my civic.
I managed to get an USA civic manual and it recommended 5w-20 motor oil. In Australia the manual recommends a variety of oil such as. 10W-30, 10W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40, 0W-30 and 0W-40. Unlike the USA manual the Australian version says to use Genuine Honda Motor Oil. I contacted a dealer and they would not tell me what the properties of the Genuine motor oil is so which oil should I use. I have an R18 engine |

The oil is re-branded Exxon Mobil Superflo (it was on the market several years before 2006 Civics), although some dealers will change your oil with Valvoline. Most if not all modern engine oils will do an adequate job at protecting your engine. The "best" oil is a matter of debate. If you're looking for overkill, get synthetic oil; it's relatively expensive and very tolerant of heat and provides superior protection. However, you can always go with a petrol based lube. Today’s petrol based oil costs less than synthetic and will do a competent job at preventing the engine from grinding itself to death. The chemical technology behind today’s lubricants makes choosing a good product a win-win situation. |
