Whirring sound

In my Si, at speeds from about 10-40 mph I can hear a whirring sound that varies with the speed. It only happens when the car is in gear. It is kinda fiegnt but i hear it every time and its a little annoying. Anoyone else had this problem?

Yes it does change with speed. Although if you are thinking it could be a bearing it can't be. When I'm out of gear and coasting the sound is gone.

i've noticed that when i'm going constant, it will make taht noise. if i accelerate, it iwll go away, then once i'm constant it will appear. it sually happens when i'm going above 35, i definately hear it on the freeway, however, i haven't taken note if it dissapears if i'm a hill, which woudl elimate the fact that the whirring came from "play" in the system. Thats my best guess. i'll take note next time.

Yeah, accellerating its not there, but constant speed it is. Its not loud but its there and its pissing me the hell off. I think im just being a pain in the ass because i basically have to turn the music off to hear it so im gonna try to forget about it unless any of you think it could be a real problem.

It's the secret supercharger!!!!

I hear it to in mine. Don't know what it is. I don't really care. I figure it's just another great SI mystery.

Dudes, think of all the mechanical whirring going on. 16 valves will do that. VTEC or not.

If you're AC is on, there is your answer. The AC system is kinda loud and sounds like mini-supercharger that varies with the engine's RPM.

This makes me think of the old Muncie "Rock Crusher" transmissions from the 1970's. They were used in the high performance GM muscle cars, and you could hear them whirring NOTICEABLY when driving, or even if you were standing on the sidewalk as one would be coming down the street. However, these were the standard for bullet proof high performance transmissions. Cars with one of these transmissions usually meant business!

For fear of reviving a dead thread, I also hear the noise... only with the radio off and while accelerating. I just have my SVC turned up to HIGH so I don't hear it on the highway... I try not to let it bother me since I'm used to cars that made worse noises than that. =)
