Classic has been known to stick it to people, not usually the most easy to work with group. Classic didn’t even want a deposit for an Si. All they did is push the sedan so I went to First Texas Honda. Called in told them what I wanted they had the exact Si I wanted on order and took my deposit, got it in 2 weeks.

I just went to Richfield Honda yesterday, and even though I asked them to make sure they used 5W-30, they went ahead and used 5W-20, assuring me they used 5W-30.

The receipt said that they used 5W-20. So I called them back later yesterday and asked them about it. The man on the phone told me that it really wasn't a big deal, and that 20 wouldn't hurt the car at all, but if I wanted, they would replace the oil and put 5W-30 in for free.

I just got back and they did change it for free, so I am happy about that. I am a little upset though, because it seems this happens a lot of dealerships.

Why is it hard to read the oil cover that says 5W-30 on the car? Aren't Honda dealerships supposed to KNOW this stuff?

Read the cap you stupid morons! haha. This is why I won't take my 07 Honda to the stealership for oil changes. I work for a GM dealership and I see what the lube techs do (or don't do).

I think the peons that work in the service bays of the dealerships could care less of what oil they put in your car. They use whatever is handy in that big bulk drum that they have stitting around. Lots of their new cars do use 5W20
(A grade that actually Ford first came up with interducing their newly designed Ford Mustang in 1999) Back then it was impossible to find anywhere and yes it is to squeeze the most mileage out of the engine.
They are probably right and it wont hurt our engines and in colder climates in the winter it might even be a good thing. But I for one prefer better protection over better gas mileage. I have been putting in Mobil One 0W40 in all my cars after the first oil change and it runs flawlessly and protects the engine in cold and hot conditions. Specifically designed for higher reving cars and Turbo Charged cars.

Yeah, I agree, Tom, 100%. I dunno, the guys that were in charge in the service department were very helpful and very polite to me, and he genuinely seemed to know what he was talking about.

Apparently 2007 owners of Si's are told to use 5W-20....

Yes... here's the quote from the '07 owner's manual:

"All models except U.S. Si:
Honda Motor Oil is the preferred 5W-20 lubricant for your vehicle. 5W-20 oil is formulated for year-round protection of your vehicle, to improve cold weather starting and fuel economy.

U.S. Si model:
An oil with a viscosity of 5W-30 is preferred for improved fuel economy and year-round protection in your vehicle. You may use a 10W-30 oil if the temperature in your area never goes below 20ºF (-7ºC).

Synthetic Oil:
You may use a synthetic motor oil if it meets the same requirements given for a conventional motor oil: it displays the API certification seal, and it is the proper weight...."

I just say drive and don't worry about it. If it does reduce the engine life, it probably won't be by any noticable amount at all. The rest of the parts on the car will fall apart way before the engine will most likely. If you want it done right do it yourself and you know what is in your engine.

If you have an advanced auto parts in your area I would get the pennzoil platinum synthetic oil and the advanced auto parts oil filters which are all buy one get one free till the end of the month I believe. The filters are made buy purolator so they are pretty decent quality.
