Honda Tech - "Weeeeelllllllll we MIGHT'VE accidently put the wrong oil in your car and reduced the lifetime of the engine by several thousand miles.....so heres a license plate!"

Go back and demand 18" HFP's w/summer tires

Where do you get all this nonsense????

30 weight is a unit to measure the viscosity of the oil. The thicker the oil, the more stable/robust/uniform the lubricating film of the oil is. Don't try to use 20 weight in a SI. If anything non-si users should use 30 weight to better protect their engine at the expense of slihgtly lower fuel economy.

what ever you said. if you wanna jump from 5w to 30w then go ahead, but you'll gonna be have a problem starting your car when the temperature drop by 10F. SI only allowed to go up to 10w-30 during summer time.

and yes i can put 20w-50 on my car but i choose to not coz i dont want to put a load on my engine, it is not safe but its okey.

you wonder y the new small engine today uses a 5w-30 oil, and if you seen b-4, most of the car are running on 10w-40, and trucks uses 20w-50 and bore out race cars also uses 20w-50. don't read whats on the back of the gallon.
see y honda have a small head but the HP is high, and the others, they have to go FI or bigger displacment to boost thier HP.

and for the high lighted comment, why did the honda engineer stated that its recommended to put a 5w-20 on the r18 instead of what ever you stated. so in this case your smarter than the honda engineer who design the engine coz you figure it out that by using a different oil viscosity, it will save the engine's life. do you think if that is the case, they will not gonna find out?

Hence the film of oil is thicker

Thus, the drag is more but, the thicker layer can accomodate higher sheer stresses due to the High Revving nature of the engine.
Not really correct. It's not soo much the "Thickness" but the Viscosity of the Oil. I am actually using a 0W40 Mobil One in my car. It's the oil that is used by most European car manufacturers like Porsche, Mercedes and BMW.
It flows well at start up when the engine is cold 0W and then protects when the engine gets hot or under extreme conditions (40 W).

My car is getting 2mpg more on average since I changed it the first time and it seems to rev and runs smoother but that could be my immagination.

Yes, viscosity is the proper term. And the reason for engine running smoother is because of a more viscous layer of oil that can provide a better lubricating layer.

Think about it. More viscous the oil is, more its going to want to stick to itself. Hence resisting a break the film of oil lubricating it under very high rpm.
SI STYLE :-p.

Also as the oil gets dirty, the thicker/more viscous the layer is able to suspend more microscopic impurities that are too small for the oil filter.

We need an 07 Si owner to tell us if Honda made a change to the recommended oil in the Owner's Manual.

I'm pretty sure they put 5w-20 in my car, too. I just called my salesguy, he's calling me back in 10 mins. He's a super cool guy.

I fully recommend Michael from Classic Honda in Round Rock, TX. :)

i changed my oil from the factory fill to mobil 1 and filter 10w30.. i noticed the car revved faster and was smoother.. on the down side i lost 1-1.5 mpg per fill up.. i tell u what 5-20 10-30 is not to think like someone said earlier.. try 20-50 if u want thicker..

ps any race tech would tell u that thinker oil is better..but as stated before not for fuel economy, and that is what the car dealers are in the race for lol..anyway.. agree to disagree peace
