Getting spare key from the dealer?

Hey guys,
How much does the dealer charge for a spare key? Or even a full key with the lock/unlock buttons on it?
thanks!

Wow thats comparable to what BMW wants for keys, can these keys be cut anywhere or do you have to buy them from the dealer (If I just want a spare key in case I'm locked out of my car) sucks about the programming though

wtf!?! i don't know where these prices are coming from. I purchased a valet key in february and it was $3.73. All you need to do is tell them your VIN # and show them photo id. for a key with a chip in it you'll pay around $50.

Prices range from dealer to dealer, some consider the cutting and programming to be done by techs only and then charge you the hourly rate, others make it a flat fee cause they train their service advisors to do it, either way you have to go to the dealer and they have to use the HDS tablet to program the key.

Call around to all of your local dealers, one might do it flat rate instead of hourly work rate.

If you just want a key to open the doors and not start the car, that would be the cheapest way to go.

You do realize the Valet Key can start the engine.

It unlocks the doors, starts the engine. The only thing it can't do is unlock the trunk.

*edit, this is why you have that fancy little lock beside the driver on the inside of the door sill.. locks the trunk, valet key cant open it*

Gotcha. It just defeats the purpose IMO.
