Keys?
Alright so I just got my Si used, and the dealer said they have only 1 key. (The normal black one with trunk, lock, unlock). To be honest, I kinda forget were I place stuff sometimes, and have a feeling I might lose this 1 key. Basically I was wondering how much it is to get another black one, and how much it is for the grey valet(sp?) key. Also if I got someone elses what would I need to do to get it to work on my Si?
Just looking for some info. Thanks in advanced

Call them and ask them when they will make you your 2nd key and reprogram your car. You get 2 keys when you buy a car from a dealer. I just bought a used civic a few days ago and they tried that krap on me 2. It took them 1.5 hours but I walked with 2 keys.

It was the black one with everything on it. My car was certified pre-owned, was yours? Maybe that makes a difference? I'm shocked that they didn't give you 2 keys, I don't feel that that's kosher at all. The keys are expensive. If they won't give it to you, I'd call Honda USA and file a complaint. They'll have someone call you back from the dealership who's job it is to handle these types of situations. I did the same thing with a used toyota i bought and the dealership didn't want to have any problems with corporate toyota. It took a few calls but I got what I felt I deserved. |

Guys,
The poster didn't exactly mention which dealer he bought his civic from. I bought mine from Carmax which is a dealer and not Honda, so all those advice is null if he didn't get his car certified from Honda. Luckily, my car came with two keys. Both were the black keys with lock/unlock and trunk. I tried getting a valet key from a Honda dealer and they wanted an arm and a leg. I think it was just $40-50 to just get the spare key, let alone programming the key to match your car, etc. It wasn't worth it for me. Unfortunately, our cars have immobilizers so we can't just have it cut. |

i JUST (literally, an hour ago!) got a master key made and it cost me $190. It was 75 for the key 100 for the labor and then tax. It took them about 40 minutes to program it and make a copy. The valet key costs $45 and then plus the above mentioned additional costs.
