if you didn't reset your ECU by disconnecting your battery during the install, you should definitely do so. it will almost certainly get rid of the check engine light. the car doesn't realize that you've changed the part, and the air flow sensor is receiving a different volume of air, so the ECU thinks something is wrong.

yes! disconnect the negative terminal and pump your brakes a few times until the pedal goes stiff. (give it 5 minutes if you want, i always do, but it shouldn't be necessary.) reconnect the terminal and start your car, and let it idle unattended until it warms up, then shut it off.
