A/T Downshift from 2->1

Hey all, im new around here, ive searched a little bit, and i dont think anyone has brought this up yet, they just dont have this issue..

In my LX sedan(stock), whenever im ready to pull to a >complete< stop at a light or sign, my transmission shifts very noticeably from 2nd to 1st. My chassis kinda jolts forwards, like what happens when u slam the brakes(but not THAT much).

I tested it from 5th gear listening/feeling for down shifts, and its very smooth and fine all the way to to 2nd, then it has the jolt/rocking. ive re-tested on flat/uphill/downhill, it happens whenever i am flat or going downhill, uphill it doesnt occur, probably because of the inclination is affecting the rocking so i dont notice.

Either way, anyone have this issue?, if so, what did u do to resolve it?
If my info provided was too vague, please ask what info you need! :P

PS-if there is tranny problems, my warranty should cover it right? its been a year since my purchase, im a little foggy about it...

Thanks for your time~

Kakashi.

i feel the same thing, i guess the car feels like it "loosens up" right before you stop, right?

this downshift + DBW lag + super shift shock = uncomfortable :/

I actually made a thread about it a lil while ago. Apparently its "normal" and although hondas transmissions are effective, they're in no way comfy. If this has anything to do with the DBW lag, there supposed to be a fix coming soon.
Uncomfortable transmission

ahhh theres that thread

thanks man

i drive my A/T like a M/T. But that was after 3000 miles, i started experimenting with the A/T. But the jolting thing has always been happening..and in the words of someone else in that thread, it DOES feel like i got tapped lightly by the car behind me, i always gotta turn around and look.

BUT, the shifting into "N" before re-engaging "D1" usually fixes that. But yeah, i hope they get this surging thing fixed, people look at me and think i cant drive a A/T right. Plus its annoying to see my passengers kinda jolt. I dont mind, but im tryin to give peopel a comfortable ride too..

lmao.

o yeah btw 10k miles with Semi-sequential usage = still A-ok.

Huh...I haven't noticed a downshift jolt in my EX AT sedan. My previous car was a '94 LX AT Accord sedan, so I just might be used the the whole jolting feeling.

i read in another thread that you shouldnt shift to N while still in motion. I dont know if thats true?

i only do that less than 7-8mph.. just rolling to a stop. it won't hurt it.

I used to drive a 96 accord, and the transmission was a lot more comfy, dispite some harsh upshifts. This civic's transmission just doesn't really have the driver in mind.

I only experience this issue when I'm not driving in a legal manner. Basically, if I'm speeding and approach a stop to the point where I barely stop and want to go again, I will have this jolt. If I slowly approach my stops this downshift jolt is non-existant because the vehicle is slowing down in an appropriate manner. I'm going to assume that your problem is identical and recommend you try simply going slower into a stop.

The rocking is basically because the trans is downshifting into a lower gear in a hurry -- causing the car to lurch like when you downshift intentionally to brake the car down a hill or some similar reason. For instance, if you downshifted at 45mph into 2nd gear, you would notice a fairly significant lurch until the car revved down to where it would normally be in 2nd gear.
