Cool I have had it with the dealership

So I have been to the dealer 5 times for this rattle in between the headliner and the area behind the sunroof... It is intermittent and I have been sent away with the standard "can't duplicate the problem" statement 1/2 of the time.

Is there a bulletin for this?

I have never had this much of a problem with previous Hondas... No problems with my 7thgencivic, and all of my motorcycles have been fine...

The Cam Chain Tensioner was a known issue on my 929RR, but it was repaired under warantee, one time in the dealership and the fix was complete with no re-work required.

WHY CAN'T THEY GO FOR BROKE AND FIX THE DAMN PROBLEM... Playing around with the customer is sulying the Honda image.

Does anyone know where I can buy a sticker of Calven (Calven and Hobbs) pissing on a "H"?

What is the chance that this is a documeted issue that has a factory repair listed in Honda's repair manual? You know, something that does not qualify as a bulletin but common.

Hoping that not everyone has the problem, but seriously want it fixed.

I know it is just some velcro or double sided tape that is letting gravity take over and the headliner to sag after a week. Allowing a wire to bounce around or something.

So tired of the tech giving me back the car after putting a small amount of felt between the sunshade and the headliner. Just to have the sound return before the week is up. I told them that I could make the rattle stop for 5 days by pushing up on the headliner really hard. Hell,,, I could fix it but I am paying way too much for a new car to have to work on it.

Besides if I make any mods to it I would most likely void some kind of waranty...

i have this issue too!

argh it drives me nuts some times. I was punching the the ceiling today to try to fix it (prob made it worse). I found that If i stuck my finger (as a passenger) between where the sunroof cover and the rest of the roof (or i guess any object) it goes away!

and i was able to replicated it for a bit by just pressing my finger in that area.

i really hope something becomes of this, i will prob be taking my car in in a month - im also starting to feel alignment issues with my back tires (seperate i guess)

Need Tips and Tricks...

Has anyone created a "how-to" for removing the headliner? I saw the College Honda diagrams, but would like a heads-up from someone who has pulled out the headliner. Just don't want to be the guy who had to buy a new headliner because I pulled too hard on it.

Funny you should mention punching the thing to shut it up... I did that once and it worked... The rattle was gone for at least 4-5 days. The silence lasted just as long as the silence resulting from the last 2 visits to the dealership. Maybe I could get a job as a tech...

That rattle in the back is coming from the center clip in the headliner. The hole is too big for it.

May sound funny but I took the leg part of an old sock and used about 2-3 inches of it. Cut a small slit in the center. Pushed it down over the clip and banged it back into the ceiling. No more rattle. It fills those couple of centimeters and aborbs any vibration.

I had a problem with mine when I put my outrageous box and subwoofer in the trunk. Calling it a rattle or a vibration would be the understatement of the year. I could make it stop if I pushed up on the headliner between the back of the moonroof and the rear window. Turns out it was the headliner slapping against the bottom of the moonroof motor (which is on the back of the moonroof assembly). If you lean back in the back seat and pull down gently to pop the center clip (probably the same one ShaneWdrd mentioned), you can pull it down enough to see the motor up there. I simply adhered a foam pad to the headliner where it was coming into contact with the motor, and voila! No more noise.

Hope that helps

I think whenever anyone has a problem with their car, phone Honda Canada or Honda US, and complain. When they get enough complaints, they will try to fix the problem, right? Then go to the dealer and try to get them to fix it or fix it yourself.
I hope you work it out.

Update

Got it back again, this time with new wind noise and the same rattle is there but altered slightly.

The best part is that now the sunroof won't close from the popped-up position unless I push the button 5 or more times. Down then up, down then up, down then up, down then up, down then up...

Honda (HOA) called me Monday night and had me answer a 10 question "How Would You Rate Your Service 1-5 " questionnaire.

The service manager called me today to give me crap for not rating the service department 4 or better on the on the questionniare. He seemed a little more agreeable when I had him read the comment portion, where I said that I am more pissed at Honda because the dealership's hands were tied.

Ultimately... I just want to be done with it, and not have to keep going back for repairs on the same thing.

do yourself a big favor. go back to the dealer and tell the sevrice manager you want to take a ride in the car with the head technician or the shop foreman. point out everything you want, and make sure you dont get out of the car til he/she hears it and knows what they are trying to fix. intermittant problems are the number one excuse of "nothing found". the last place i worked at if the customer said anything about not always happening the tech automatically said nothing found. unless it was really obvious. half the time i would get int he car and be like dude, and your f**king serious. i head it while driving 5 mph.

I wish we (the consumer) could force their hand on these repair items. I understand that to be cost effective you can't replace the entire headliner and sunroof assembly at the first sign of problems. But to jam felt or sound deadening material up there 5 times is not repairing.

I am working with HOA for the next trip to the dealership, but I am not being assured that they will repair this once and for all. I am being asked to be hopeful.

Knowing the level of resistance met with over this minor repair, and the fact that many 8THCIVIC members are posting many other common problems, I am losing that warm fuzzy feeling usually associated with Honda ownership.

Worst of all, I am not being contacted by a Honda rep that is agressively working to get this problem corrected. Everyone seems to be really relaxed about the fact that the consumer is unhappy with the product.

Ya, same here, my Honda dealer is great. I have been to other Honda dealers, and they sucked. So you might have to go to another dealer if avaliable.
