Angry Excessive Brake wear 2007 civic

I've replaced front brakes at
10,000, 20,000 and 30,000 miles and now the rotors are heat spotted at 39,000. At 10 and 20k, Honda just said "you have a heavy foot" or "I don't know." Then I went to Les Schwab. Now Schwab says go back to Honda and ask them to fix. I've changed to new state, etc. Who is responsible for problem and how do I get help? How do I get satisfaction under original warrantee? I saw suggestion to call honda central but who/where are they and how do I get resolution? Which dealer or ? will help. Can I get satisfaction without suing?

I am out of work, wife sick, etc. and this is just one too many problems for me to take on as a full time hobby!

Thanks.

Larry

I've had the same problem with mine. I had my first brake pads replaced at 10k then at 16k then at 26k i had new rotors and pads. The blame was also put on me and I really don't know why the brakes wear out so fast. I've been told that it just my driving. So I guess I'm in the same boat as you. I'm at 40k now though and haven't had to get them replaced since 26k but they now make constant noise when braking.

I have an 07 civic, with 31k, and I haven't had to change them at all yet. I did buy it used so they could have been replaced right before i bought it (26k). But they have not made any noise at all.

OK dealer claims it's operator error and nothing to do - I brake hard and its not unusual to change brakes every 10k! Les Schwab guarentees for 24k, so I seem to have no alternative but to go to them and eat cost. Any ideas of ways to convince dealerships? They check over and find no reason but driver error!

hi steven - dealer is sure it's my driving and car is ok - so i'm going to les schwab in order to get 24k guarentee. Honda says schwab guarantee is longer because pads are harder and will wear out rotors quicker!

Premature Brake wear '07 Sedan

Your story sounds familiar. I own an '07 sedan with 50,000 kms. Just came back from dealer and had to replace rotors and pads. Pads I can understand, but the rotors were a shock.
I typically get between 100,000 kms and 120,000kms on a set of rotors. I have previously owned '87 Si and 2003 sedan with no issues. The only thing that has changed in my regular driving habits is the car. I do 70kms daily mainly on highway with stints of stop and go in rush hour traffic. I believe this to be premature wear. This has taken the bloom off what I think is a great car.
Any thoughts?

Do you drive like a butt-hole? Speed up to get to the red light faster, then slam on your brakes once at the red light?

Don't drive with your foot on the brake. maybe your spouse it doing it. Also, don't replace your pads with cheap pads, they wear out fast and they suck when they get hot.

well if you drive a automatic, then you should learn to coast more, and down shift into 3 or 4th gear, If it allows you too.

If you drive a manual, then again, learn to downshift and revmatch, then youll notice that you only need the brakes to stop or slow down fast.

I've been through this with my daughter, warped rotors at 16k, new pads at 30k. She doesn't drive that fast, she stops hard. Trying to teach her to coast more...
The wife's Odyssey went 72k on stock brakes and tires, my 2006 civic has 52k on the brakes and they are fine. I checked them when Igot tires at 50k.
She has an '04 civic, btw.

Same issues here...fronts pads wouldn't stop after 20K miles. Changed to hawk pads and turned the rotors. 10K miles later, wouldn't stop again, was told hawk pads had cooked the rotors (yes, rotors were shot). Got Honda to replace rotors under warranty, I supplied honda oem pads, no problems for the last 10K miles...Still waiting to see if problems return.

i have 42k miles on stock brakes and rotors, according to last dealer inspection, they are still only about half worn, so i should expect about 80k miles. the key to long brake life is to use the brakes only to stop at traffic lights or stop signs. i hardly ever use the brakes when driving. it helps to keep a long enough following distance that when someone in front of me brakes, i just let off the gas.

06 EX coupe...35,000 Kms on it..still on original brakes, still have lots of pad left.

Let me guess. you hot foot it between lights, brake hard to stop, don't downshift, ride the brakes etc. 99.9% of the time, premature brake wear can be attributed to your driving habits.

I am in an auto...so it is not like a can downshift and save the brakes. I don't ride the brakes, but I am in stop and go traffic daily. The roads here are terrible and by the time I get up to speed, I normally get caught by another light.
Not a whole lot I can do for the brakes except keep them checked, but from my experience, the oem pads have given me a lot better use.
