Door Hinge Snapped?!
I'll tell ya, I'm pretty pissed right now.
So, I leave work today and get in my car and ride home. Nothing out of the ordinary, light traffic, rock salt on the road from recent snow, etc. So I arrive at my home residence and I go to get out of my car. When I attempt to open the driver's side door, I immediately hear this very audible creek, and my door will not open more than about 10%-15%. So, I am thinking what the hell? My car wasn't hit (would've been easily able to see that with all the salt on my car), I don't recollect anything happening that would cause any mechanical problems with the door. So I slide out the passenger side of my car, and carefully attempt to open the door to see where the problem lies. I quickly see that the door is butting up and grinding against the front fender causing it to not open. So, I close the door and begin to inspect some more, and now I see that the lower portion of the door is bowed out quite a bit, there are 2 small paint chips on the edge of the door, and also the trim is also scuffed, and a bit smooshed on the edge also from attempting to open the door when I get out. So I tried to think harder as to what it may be, and I began to recollect what I thought was the sound of a rock, or piece of rock salt hitting the under side of the car while driving(resembled the sound but sounded closer to the dash) and thought nothing of it at the time, but then it hit me that the sound was actually something breaking and not a rock hitting the underside of the car or an over sized clump of rock salt. Now, I can't barley open the door, so I cannot view the inner portions of the door where the hinges are, so I cannot tell exactly what broke. I attempted to very carefully wiggle the door a bit to see if anything would fall out, but nothing. My dad tends to think that the actual door hinge may have snapped due to a bad weld of the hinges in combination with the cold, and I am beginning to think he is correct. I called the dealership, and the guy was quite an asshole. I conveyed to him exactly what I have typed here, and asked him if it would be covered under warranty? His response "well if a rock hit under the car then no". So I boldly say "SIR, i said the sound resembled a rock hitting the underside of the car and thought nothing of it at the time until I discovered this problem. And how would that have anything to do with the door not opening properly?". So anyhow, I called my boss and got off from work, and I was told to bring my car in between 8:30-9AM tomorrow. I am going in with a bit of tact, but I am also very angry that this happened to my car. I am one of the few people that actually believe in purchasing the extended warranty, and have kept my car entirely stock due to this fact. Needless to say, does anyone have the Honda of America Corporate phone number so I can program it into my phone? I am really in a "don't **** with me" type of mood, and I am sure I will be tomorrow, especially if they attempt to pull any shenanigans. So anyhow, does anyone else have any ideas, as to what it may be, or what has caused it? Have ever heard of anything similar? Also, is there any other knowledge I should go into the dealer with? Any poignant thoughts that I should make sure are clear when explaining this to the douche that will sitting behind the desk when I plead my case? I want to make sure I receive the proper service, chips on the door fixed which were caused due to this, the whole 9 yards. Anyhow, sorry for the wall of text. I've posted photos below for your viewing. Sorry for all the salt on the car, we had 10 inches of snow dumped on us a day or two prior. (Planned on washing it this weekend. 63 degrees Saturday!) Thanks, keefer ![]() ![]()

Yea, well it just got done snowing, and if you want to come wash it in 20-30 degree weather you're more then welcome to.
I keep my car in immaculate shape. I even own a Flex VRG, a 10x20 auto canopy that I set up to buff in the summer (don't have a garage), and about $1200 in CG products.. |

That sucks..
If your service manager is being a dick, then you need to convey that to the higher ups. If they don't care then take your business elsewhere. Even if it's something covered under warranty, they're getting paid if you take it to them. And you don't want to support asshole service. I just noticed that one of the ads on this page is a big picture of a hinge... skynet must be one step closer to world domination. |

Ok, can we keep the thread on topic. If you have nothing else to contribute besides "wow that car is dirty and has massive salt" on it comments, please keep it to yourself.
And just for your information, here is my car 1 week ago prior to the snow storm. Sorry, I don't run my **** through the swirl o matic right after it snows..
