Going in for my oil change tomorrow. Going to be around 8100km or 8200km w/ an oil indicator of 15%. Changing to synthetic Royal Purple 5W-20.

You should be able to squeeze 5,000 miles out of every oil change. And being that the car is relatively new, 5,000 miles is pretty much guaranteed. Also, someone who drives a lot in the city will have dirtier oil than someone who mostly drives highway at a certain mileage i.e. 3K.

BUWAHAHAHAHA

I think that driver has abused his engine and then blamed it on the oil.
Mobil One has been around for many many moons and has been regarded in the industry as one of the best synthetics you can buy. The 5W30 Mobil One has one of the highest HTHS (High Temp High Shear) ratings of the oils in that viscosity.
The only 2 Oils that were higer was the Amsoil 0W30 and the Red Line 5W30.
All the others were below. Redline 5W30 was King with 3.8 HTHS, Amsoil 3.6 and Mobil One 3.4.

Mobil One is also used from the factory in all Porsches and Mercedes.
If they just knew what you knew they probably will switch to Quacker State

I deleted my negative statement about Royal Purple since I can not find the article and I don't want to spread just hear say. I am sure it's a good oil but they yet have listed their HTHS rating and for
the price there are better oils out there. But that is just my honest opinion.

True... The reason is that M1 was very thin for it's weight. Infact it was one of the lightest 5w20 you could buy. However, recently (in less than a year) M1 has switched to a thicker blend, so you should see that ticking go away.

Using thin oil can often cause a knocking sound that can be dampend out by thicker oils. It happens all the time. Run a motor on a thin 0w30, then try GC, you will hear the difference.

RP is extremely high in sulfur and tends to thin earlier than standard oils. This means they are using a single universal base stock and then modifing that stock with addatives, and when those addtives are gone, the viscosity gets screwy.

In short, RP was probably the best oil for all out race cars. Cars that only go 500-1000 miles between rebuilds. In a street car, there are better options IMO.

It's true, my strut went bad because I used Mobile 1 blinker fluid

Really though, the oil is not going to damage the engine like that unless he stole the oil out of someone elses car.

Ok so I have 4K on my si and i ALWAYS go over 3.5K rpms on each gear and it still says 30% oil life. I already want to do the oil change but still debating on the brands. What should i get? I heard that pennzoil is the best but not sure on that.

Mobil 1 Synthetic
Pennzoil Synthetic
Royal Purple

IMO i'd still go with Mobil 1 Synthetic, but get a thicker grade..

5w30 should be good, thats what i'm going to use, stay away from 5w20

Mobil 1 brand itself has nothing to do with it. Like another said, they may be using the incorrect weight. Granite there is a range in Centistokes that a oil can be called a certain weight.

maybe becuase gawd knows how many miles are on those b series engines?? it could just be lifter tick.

didn't you post something in this thread that said "this is what eventually happens when you use Mobil 1 Synthetic" and linked to a video of a Honda engine sounding like a Shop-Vac?

Mobil 1 Synthetic
Pennzoil Synthetic
Royal Purple

I would go with one of the first 2, then go with the cheapest and most convient to obtain between those two.

You know what is even funnier, if you look at the viscosities aviable on Mobile 1's webpage, the 5w20 IS THICKER than the 5w30 since they revised it

So if you actually want the thicker oil, you should go 5w20 (that's only for Mobile 1)

Okay, that doesn't make any sense. Are you saying that the weight of the oil actually doesn't have anything to do with the thickness of the oil??
I am confused.
