Question about oil level?

My car has only 550 km (break in period). Today i just check the oil level and its in the middle of the (XXXX) at the final of the dipstick. Is this normal? Should'nt be at the top of the (XXXX).

Thanks

Update: I just check my manual and it saids that oil shold be betwen the marks, so its ok.

Had the car been running for awhile before you checked it? Also, did you check it on level ground, not on an incline?

Yes i check the oil on level ground but cool, and in the manual saids that oil should be checked warm (waiting 5 minutes to check).

I panic because in my previeus car (nissan sentra) ypu have a low mark and a full mark.

i keep the oil around the middle mark on all my cars when cold.
(pull dipstick out, wipe with towel, dip the stick back in all the way,
count to 5, pull up and see where the oil level is).

it's user preference. it's better to have less oil than too much, but
FULL is not too much. pour in about 1/4 quart and remeasure until
you're at where you want it to be.

I put it to the top just so it has farther to fall if it does decide to burn/leak between checking. What car are you driving? My SI burned 2 quarts in the first 5000 miles, but burns no more.
