Thud from engine after letting off gas pedal...

So I drove our crappy bread van home from work today... Everytime I let my foot off the gas pedal, there was a very dull and audible thud coming from the engine bay... any ideas?

No fuel cut off at all, no hesitation, just a thud... I've played with it and feathered the gas from flooring to barely touching it, but when I let off it makes the same thud... no harder, no softer.
