Is it bad to drop to a low gear going at high speeds to hit vtec and go fast? For example: 6th gear 55-60mph to 3rd gear at that point rpms would be around 6 I think or 5th gear 40-45mph to 2nd gear. With rev matching. Just wondering thanks in advance.

Rev matching yes.
Don't go oo i want to hit vtec in 3rd while going 65 and dump the clutch into third. Or worse don't drop into a gear if you don't know where you will be at in RPM's. Can result in us seeing a thread, "i think i blew my motor" |

main thing about dropping if you aren't sure is over revving the motor. If you say drop it into second going 70 its not giong to just stock at the rev limiter. Its going to go past it and can cause damage.

good thing you posted this.. a long time ago i was cruising at:
65 km/h in gear 6 at i believe 1900 rpm and he wanted to hear vtec in my car so: i downshifted to gear 2, brought it instantly up to about 6000-6500 rpm and vroomMMEdd away.. perfect rev match, and he said i was ******* up my car by dropping it 4 gears :o i told him that he's wrong.. so some one clarify for me.. so, was i wrong in saying that i didnt damage my engine in any way and thats the proper way to get instant vtec? its not like i downshifted into redline, or its not like i didnt rev match or my car jerked or anything.. nice, smooth, vtec

i do 6th then drop to 3rd when going 65mph and it just fine
but dont ever ever down shift to a lower gear other than 3rd otherwise 65mph into 2nd gear = NO SO GOOD. if your going over 75 dont go down to 3rd !! 65 -70 is "MY" limit down shifting into 3rd.

yeah the revv limiter is only a fuel cutoff, wheras the car cant slow the wheels down on a down shift, itll go as high as it wants and possibly cause damage.
i had a bad experience with dropping gears, once. not doing that again id rather have the rpms fall too low than to high now. |

Ohhh I see what you're saying, no rev limiter if you force the car in a lower gear. But what if I don't force the car into any gear. Rather only disengage the clutch, would I be able to blip (with throttle) past the 8300rpm fuel cutoff?

Don't over rev your engine. It keeps a log in the computer and it will void your warranty.
Also, it's not good to go from 6th to 3rd because the synchro has to do a lot more work to make such a jump. Go through the gears to get to third. The way to do the least damage to your synchros while changing quickly from 6th to 3rd is to DOUBLE-CLUTCH as well as rev-match as usual. This will match the spindle speeds and put no strain whatsoever on your synchros. |
