Yah I think its the ABS that does that. I have felt it too, and in the 2001 Civic I had did the same thing.

It's the ABS. A lot of people have mentioned it since these cars started coming out. I've noticed it several times as well. My fiancee even said it sounded like my car fell apart, but it's just the brakes. I'm not sure why these cars are different, but I've never had a problem stopping when I needed.

Yep, the first time that I 'used' the ABS in the Si I was pretty surprised at both the noise (worst ABS I've heard and I've owned several cars with ABS..the Si sounds like something is broken when ABS is active), and the feel of the pedal (usually feels more like a warped rotor in my last cars with ABS, the Si is raspy, and grinding in feel). I've gotten used to it for most part, but now and then it still irritates me.

First time I was braking over a bump/dip and felt that, I kind of reasoned it out. In my case it wasn't a bump but a pothole so it was easier to tell. It felt like my tire lost traction when when I hit the pothole and the ABS kicked in real hard. I still felt like I messed up my brakes by braking real hard cuz of the vibration in my foot. Whenever I hear or feel something different on my car, I usually can't stop thinking about it until I figure it out.

So when I was almost to my house, there was a stop sign there and instead of slowing down, I sped up. Probably not the smartest thing to do but it was bothering me. So I sped up and basically slammed on the brakes. Sure enough, I felt the same exact vibration in my foot as I did earlier. Thus, I deemed this the ABS kicking in.

If anyone thinks there is a problem when they brake going over a bump, go to a flat road and speed up and then slam on the brakes and you should feel that same vibration. Advanced Braking System.

Almost forgot about this one too. I was stuck behind an 18-Wheeler in the right lane. He put on his left turn signal and switched lanes. I saw my opportunity and gunned it. I am about a third of the way past this truck when he cuts a hard right to turn on the intersection we were at (I guess he get in the left lane to cut that wide right turn). There was nowhere for me to go so I slammed on my brakes and stopped inches short of hitting the truck. I had to pull a little towards the curb on the right or I would have hit him. I was so close to the truck that I had to reverse before he could complete his turn since they make those wide ass turns. It felt like I grinded the shit out of my brakes.

I was going to post this when it happened with the subject of Just Tested Out My ABS but I knew if I posted this I would have everyone and their moms telling me its dangerous to go fast and all that bullshit.

Anyways those are my experiences with ABS. Sorry I wrote a novel here, but I start writing and before I know it my post is a page and a half. I am at work and bored so I am writing this on my cell phone making it seem like I am replying to a client's email or something, I don't know.

Yeah, it's the ABS. The first month I had my Civic, I almost bit it when a car was making a left without signaling. I slammed on my brakes and the ABS kicked in and it scared the hell out of me. I also get the little vibration when I'm turning and go over a small bump at the entrance of my work. I also figured that it was my ABS doing that.

the abs system on the si's and new civics is stupid, even over a small bump it will detect a little traction loss, just a bit and activates teh abs, which ten looses even more traction, i almost had a fwe accidents becasue of this stupid abs system. on my moms 2004 accord, her abs only activates when it's really needed, not when it detects you're driving over a small hill and activates it. waht kind of crap is that. if i saw the guys who designed teh sensitivity and abs system on these civics, i'd give him a nice ABS slap in the face.

The vibration your feeling is actually the ABS shoving the pedal back towards you with a hydraulic pump or something. If it thinks your wheels are locking up (loosing traction, etc) , it assumes you've slammed on the breaks and forces the pedal back towards you to ease off and give you more control of the car. At least, that's what I've gathered.

Bad ABS system's can be dangerous as hell. Like, if there's bumps or train tracks or something on the road before a stop sign or something and you slow down over them - it might think you're in trouble and shove your foot away from the break, sending you into an intersection, off a cliff, down a ravine, into a badger etc.

I was thinking about it though, and that might not be so bad. Like, what if you were about to hit that badger, and you slam on the breaks. You may hit it anyway, doing extensive damage to your car. If the ABS were to shove you off the break, the weight of the car would go flying to the rear - lifting the nose and taking pressure off the front tires (hitting the gas at this step would help too). That would reduce the contact area of the front tires to the road (making them skinny) and the badger would be rudely shoved under your raised front and between your now skinny front tires. It’s perfect, because it may only scrape the bottom of your bumper instead of smashing it in – and with the wheels skinny it would be less likely to hit them which would mean your tires wouldn’t be flinging blood and guts all over your car. Then, hit the breaks when it's directly under your car (under the cupholders and that nifty rollout plastic thing, lets say), forcing the weight towards the front which would raise your car’s stylish ass and take pressure off the rear tires, making them skinny. This would presumably allow the badger to coast between your back tires and snuggly under the rear of your car.

Heh, makes sense to me. Hell, it might even survive.

Hey you know what works good? is WD-40,spray it on the brakes and thell lube them up. I did that today, took the car out,did some breaking and the brakes feel more responsive and smooth. Try that.

...cool... I thought I was the only one experiencing that weird vibration in the brake pedal when turning into the driveway of my work. kinda weird though w/ the ABS being too sensitive....

i get the same thing every time i panic stop over bumps or potholes

the strange thing is that it never happens on flat roads, thats why i didn't think it's the ABS

i ask the dealer and they couldn't reproduce it

aren't ABS systems supposed to produce a pulsating sound?

I have this problem when I hit drive through potholes and cracks on the roads especially during breaking or accelerating. The best way to describe it...

A TUNING FORK THAT HAS BEEN HIT!

That's how it feels on my foot.
