Some of the navi functions are nice and cannot be accessible though the buttons. I like to use the "find the nearest..." feature after I found out it can be used to find other stuff unrelated to food places. For instance, "find the nearest park", “find the nearest gas station", or “find the nearest parking structure”. The last voice command is very useful when I’m in a congested area and need to find nice parking structure on the fly. If I didn’t have voice command, I’d have to pull to the side and fiddle with the navi display in order to find the nearest parking structure. Little tidbits like these can be useful…

I agree 100%. It makes driving and using nav much safer and easier...you just have to take the time to learn the commands.

I've had my EX w/Nav for 3 months now and its always recongized my voice. Starting last week, it only recongized my voice 50% of the times. And its completely random on when it chooses to work and not work, so I dont think cold temps, hot temps, or warmed up car has anything to do with it. I've noticed that when it doesn't recongize me, it does 1 of several things.
For example, if the Radio is on right now and I press the voice button, the car goes *beep* and I proceed to say "Audio" it will 1) When working it says, "Audio Off" and then turns off the radio. Or 2) After 4 seconds from the time you pressed the button, it says things like, "Please repeat", "pardon", or "Can you say again" or 3) After 10 seconds from the time you pressed the button, it says the same things mentioned above. Or 4) Immediately after you speak, the car gives out 2 quick "beeps" and then the radio continues to play. Or 5) After 10 seconds 2 quick "beeps" are heard and the radio continues to play. And my current settlings have the voice on and guidance command repeat on. Anyone else noticed these minor differences in there voice navigation system when the voice commands are not functioning? Does anyone know the difference between them? I'm going to take it back to the dealer when it completely quits on me. But in the mean time can anyone help? |

I say "Audio" because its easy and it is a toggle for on and off. "menu" would require me to hit cancel to exit out of the menu to test again, and its the command I use most often. And I'm lazy. lol
Anyway, I washed my car yesterday and was then going to take it to the dealer cuz it didn't work all day. All of a sudden everything started working. I dont know why, maybe it wasn't working cuz I didn't wash her and she was mad at me. =) Well, it won't quit working now. Go figure. I'm sure it'll start acting up soon, but it just killed me that it started working just prior to me taking it in the dealer. If any of you guys have the same issues as I'm having, I'd love to hear about it or any solutions. Last edited by zeusma; 08-26-2006 at 10:29 PM. |

The only reason I got the factory Nav was so I can talk to it. I seriously also considered an aftermarket Nav which all plays DVD movies, but I decided a talking car was more useful, fun and safer. Now, if only she'll quit working so I can get her fixed before the 3yr/36k mi comes up.

Good and bad news. They are going to "fix" my navi by replacing the entire thing with a new unit. The bad news is that they don't know what's wrong with it. Since they need to order the navi, I will get it next week. I'll report on it once the unit is in and have the chance to use it a couple of times....

Congrat on getting a new system, but what all did you say to them about getting it fixed? Did they even try to fix it or did they say it was too complex of a system and just decided to replace it since it didn't work.
Also, not sure if they'll do it but every Sept/Oct time frame a new Nav DVD comes out, I hope they'll throw in a new DVD ROM for ya! =) Hope to hear about a success story soon. Good luck! |

When I brought it in the first time, I had a talk with the service guy about his experience with previous navi issues. He said that they will usually replace the whole navi unit if there are any defects. Therefore, it is likely that they were able to reproduce the problem with my navi and decided to replace it with a new unit rather than trying to fix the problem. I’ll post again in 2 or 3 days since the navi will arrive tomorrow.
...I hope I get a new dvd map upgrade too! *cross fingers* |

The navi is being installed today...It's too early to reply to this thread, but I have a question that's slightly off topic. Did you guys know that the sound system (probably only civic's with navi) will auto adjust the volume depending on your car speed?! Try it! Set the volume to normal comfortable level and accelerate 40+ mph. The volume will noticiablly increase! The opposite happens when you slow down to a stop. It's actually kind of annoying after I found this out...Anyways, look forward to my reply soon about the new/fixed navi. BTW, my "software version" is 1.07.00...

The good news is that they replaced the entire navi with a brand spank'in new unit AND they gave me the latest dvd map version 6.11C. The downside to all of this is that I need to take it back in again to replace the mic! They couldn’t get the voice activation to work after putting in the new navi and concluded that the mic was defective (Something I already knew)…Now I need to wait until the mic is shipped and send my car back in for the day. Even though I’m wasting my time going to the dealership and not having the car for a few hours, I believe the latest map-dvd is well worth the trouble. Also, thanks for the info about the auto-volume adjustment setting that can be turned off. I’ll turn it off asap. Thanks! Wait for further updates after I receive the mic… |
