O-30 M1 or 0-30 German Castrol (look for at AutoZone). K&N filter is fine. It's the same quality synthetic contruction as the M1 syn filters but flows better. I bought the regular M1 filter b/c it filters better and I'm doing a 7,500 mile change interval on it. I'm almost due. might geterdone this Sat. before my AutoX on Sunday.

Before I've mentioned that the 0-30 M1 is better than many of the other mixes/weights and here is the proof.
Mobil 1 Japanese MSDSs - Bob Is The Oil Guy The 0W-30 M1 has less group III oil in it(mineral oil processed and considered Synthetic) at only 10-20% as supposed to 5W-30's STAGGERING 40-50% No wonder why 5W-30 burns off so easily. The more group IV or V PAO base in it the better. but allways remember "What oil should I use? What is the BEST oil?" - Bob Is The Oil Guy |

I'm going with Amsoil 0w30 when I hit 3500 miles in my '10 coupe.
Also going with a Amsoil EAO 13 oil filter. Change interval of 10K miles.Maybe more after a Blackstone oil analysis. A relative uses 0w20 Amsoil and does a 10K change in his '08 Civic with good tested numbers. |

I am pretty sure it adjust and takes into consideration your driving habits and it monitors engine starts, ambient temp, rpms and other things so depending on how hard you push your car maybe it will go to 3k or how conservative you are maybe 6k or more. Also when you change your oil you have to manually reset it, it won't go back to 100% by itself.

I believe there are 3 OEMs
Honeywell which is Fram Toyo Roki which is a Japanese made filter. and the 3rd I can't recall the name printed on the filter but on the Bob is the Oil Guy website someone cut one open and remarked it was similar to Bosch. |

Ok so I live in Maryland and right now is really really hot like 85+ degrees everyday... I just bought some Valvoline SynPower 5w-20 with a K&N filter and I'm about to do my oil change in about 1-2k miles... should I stick with the 5w-20 or 5w-30? Is 5w-20 going to help me out with this warm climate?

when a manufacturer is contracted by a client that does more business than said manufacturer the client usually makes the filter to the manufacturer's specs, not their own. a honda filter is a honda filter.

true statement but not all filters are built the same with the same materials. This is why I'd use a AP1 s2000 filter over a K20 filter for racing. Less dense filter media. K20 specs are great for DD b/c the filtration specs are really good. I believe the K&N filter is one the best flowing filters made in the K20 spec. It's made very similar to the Mobile one filter but with a less dense filter media.

It shouldn't hurt anything but I wouldn't mix different viscositys and I wouldn't mix a synthetic with a non synthetic. Mixing different brands of the same type of oil will not hurt anything.

Personally, I don't feel comfortable dropping to a 0W, when Honda's billions of dollars in engineering says 5W-30.
But to the point, a majority of these people just want to know what the better brands are. A study was done by Amsoil, comparing it to every major brand on the market. And the results were very interesting: AMSOIL - Comparative Motor Oil Testing I chose Valvoline Synpower and Mobil 1 out of the group because it's easily purchased at any local auto parts store and had very comparable numbers to the Amsoil. Plus, Valvoline has their 300,000 mile engine warranty which is pretty legit actually. |

I cant help but post.
Thinner oil is for COLD climates, not hot. Ie 10w30 in the summer, 5w30 0w30 in the winter. Dont go thicker for cold and thinner for warm. 2 posts were made asking that without clarification.

What is a better oil for my car? I swear by Castrol, so imma stick with that for rite now. I have a 2008 Honda Civic Si sedan with 30k. I live in FL, its a very hot state. Its about 90'F to 100'F+ during the summer and 20'F to 60'F during the winter. I dont baby my car by any means. I drive very spritedly. I change my oil when the oil life meter gets down to 15%. I currently run Castrol Syntec 5W-30.
Would Castrol Edge 5W-30 be a better choice? |

I think the oem honda oil filter is the best. I use Castrol Syntec 5W-30 and the oem honda filter. It holds up well.

Doesn't matter at all. I've been using M1 5W-20 for 4 years in mine with no issues and just as smooth ride as day 1. OEM filter since day 1 also. Again, no issues, but I may switch to Pure One or M1 filter just because I believe they're the same price, if not cheaper, and I don't have to go to the stinkin' dealer to get it. Use a decent brand oil and filter and you're good. Just change them at least when the car tells you to.
