rear shock problem

Has anyone seen a bulletin from Honda on the right rear shock problem? I went to get my car inspected today at my local garage(Honda 2006 Civic) and it failed!!!! It had a leaking rear shock on the right side. I was told by the dealership that this has never happened before. Funny- it seems there is lots of people with the same problem??? anyone have this problem repaired more than once??? Any help is appreciated.

rear shock problem

Although I haven't heard of any official TSB there should be one. My car had 9 miles (new, driving home from dealer) when I first heard a slight right rear suspension noise. In July when the car had just over 4500 miles the noise was terrible so a trip to the dealer revealed not only was the right side dry and clunking but the left side was also leaking. Both rear shocks were replaced under warranty but the fact that it happened on a new car...a Honda no less...pissed me off. I am not the only person to find this so make a return trip to your dealer with the request they replace one or both rear shocks. I have also heard of front struts leaking. I don't know if the replacement parts hold up better than the originals though.

my suspension is all jacked. It's all uneven...
The dealer has already replaced the two front struts and springs.

For the people who had problems with their suspension: When did you buy your Civic? I haven't had any of these problems and I got my Civic early June.

Im thinking my front struts may be going too. My car seems real bouncy when going over dips in the road and such. I dont remember it being that much of a dip before. I did add HFP wheels and 225/45/17 tires. Anyone elso notice this?

Drove less than 50 miles on the new LX Coupe (factory date July 2006) -- knocking noise coming from the rear at slow speeds. Took it to the dealer. Two days later, it finally arrived home with a new set of rear struts.

700 miles later, the knocking has returned slightly (after freeway drives on warm days). I suspect I'll be taking it back to a dealer again..... (so far, no other complaints.)

Since the early 1990s, I've purchased five new Civics. No previous problems other than normal, predictable wear & tear from 500,000 miles of driving.

i had rear shock problems on lx cpe which i bought beg. of august...i would hear loud creaks coming from the rear end when id stop or go in reverse...the dealer said hed seen a couple civic with similar problems so they replaced the shocks and struts....the creak is starting to come back however(its been a cple weeks since the replacement) so i may be going back to the dealership again....my car also rides a little rough in the rear end going over bumps so maybe this is the cause for that as well

is there a definitive way to test for strut failure?

Mine is not leaking. But it definetly has a problem. The right rear started out as a slight popping/creaking noise when I would pull into driveway/over speed bumps/go under 12mph. Now it has gotten progressively worse. I can open the trunk and barely push down on the car and replicate it a million times. Now left rear seems to start to be making it a little too. I removed the right rear inspdected looks like on the top of the shock where it enters the body there are loose components that could result in these noises. There is a metal sleeve and a metal disc that pushes up against the rubber disc. I have never seen shocks with moving parts like this. The tolerances on the parts are like an 1/8th of an inch too so they can clank around all they want. I believe they are showas. Reinstalled extra tight. Check for the noise couldn;t really hear it thought was fixed. Jumped in later that night pulled out creak/creak, shit not fixed. Going to the dealer tommorow to waste more time showing them the noise, then they will order new shocks, take a few more days, then go back get them replaced so they will be warranty"reapired, that'll take a day, for a 15 minute job. Then they will still creak and pop until koni comes out with their product. By the way this is 07 si sedan.

My passenger side rear strut was making a knocking noise just driving along at slow speeds. It is as described by other owners. I took it to the dealer, they heard the problem, and replaced the right rear strut. The problem went away for now.

I wonder why it is mainly the right rear...

I dont know why only right rear. Can't wait till koni comes out with their strut/shock combo though. Mid summer I hope. The way I see it we are not getting revised shocks to fix the problem, just new ones. Unless they had a huge batch of shitty ones. They wont tell us that though. Good thing I have waited on putting my springs on. The noise produced just after I had gotten eibach pro kit. Havn't had time to put on yet. I know dealer would have said that was the reason. Waiting till problem is in the system then I can always say the noise was there when it was stock.

When I go over intersections that have a slight hump, I can hear what sounds like a spring noise in the front end.

I don't know what it is but sounds like one or two of the front struts.

9500+ miles.

I do don't want to bring it in and will wait till it makes the noise all the time.

It sounds like an old car in front when I go over humps and speed bumps?

Is this the same as you guys are having??

i have the same problem. everytiem i bring it to the dealer they magically cant hear anything. brought it to 3 dealers and they cant find anything in their computers about it and can seem to listen. every time i brought it in it had to be a weekday (because i ge teh excuse that they do not do warrenty work on weekend....what kind of crap is that?) which is annoying because i need my car to get to work. and it makes it more annoying to get out of work and get the phone call that they did nothing to help the problem.

anyway...i want this fixed

My dealership handled the problem very nicely. However I am sorry to read about people having problems with their dealerships.

I wonder if it is the strut itself or the strut tops?

i'm having the same problem, wow a lot of people have these problem and it's mainly on the rear passenger side, i could only hear it when accel. slowly or reverse or when i'm parallel parking, i hope koni's fix this in the future, but i'll be taking it in nonetheless since my first oil change is due, figure i'll go to hond for first oil change then go synth. fter and i can do it myself, btw that filter is a PITA.
