a question about skunk2 shift knob...

Hey guys!

Questions here about installing the skunk2 shift knob. Sorry if I posted the post in the wrong session!

Do I have to use the little metal nut under the knob? It appears to be lower without the nut so I was thinking just put the knob on without the nut...

Also, after I installed the knob. The diagram that shows all the gears and stuff was not facing straight. How do you guys fix that? I've already screwed it as tight as it could be...

Any replies would be very much appreciated!

-Chris

The answers to your question:

1) Use the nut already on the Si shift knob. The one included with the shift knob won't fit.

2) If the diagram is not aligned, use force and align it properly. You think you may have twisted it all the way, but trust me, you can go more. I did it. Don't worry, you aren't doing any damage. You are just going to break some new treads.

Thanks Yodums!

1) Can I just not use the nut at all?

2) You mean just twist the knob more? It's really slippery (Did I spell that right? ) though...

1) Sorry, I misread your original post. Yes, you can not use a nut. But like you said, it will just sit low.

2) Wash your hands and give it a try. That or use something to grip it like a piece of rubber.

Just screw it down as low as it will go with the diagram straight and then screw that nut up to meet the shift knob. Thats what I did and it worked great.

are you installing on an SI or regular Coupe?

Does the regular coupe's nut work the same way and fit right?

The locking nut that Skunk2 supplies is notoriously stupid. It's too small to fit the thread of the shifter stalk. So, if you have an FG2, you use the original locking nut with the shift knob. If you have the Coupe or Sedan, either buy a simple nut at Lowe's, or get someone's FG2 nut. :)

Hardware store. :) Anyway, if you can take a pic of the coupe's nuts (hahaha) then I can answer. However, I was under the impression that the coupe did not have one, unless you sprung for the sport shifter.

coupe's nuts, LOL
isn't the nut under the knob?

I'm not even sure how to take the knob off now
when I'm twisting counter clock wise, the boot twists with it as well
Am I doing something wrong?
