there's an off chance that your maintenance minder being at 0 prevents the vehicle from engaging in VTEC, or effectively a semi-limp mode (hahah flaccid VTEC). on a side note, having your maintenance minder being at 0 and - mileage might void your warranty. |

I don't feel the VTEC kick like I used to when my car was new, so I'm probably just used to it now, I've had mine for a year and a 1/2 already. I don't know how long you've had yours but now that your engine is well worn in you may not feel it like you used to

Check your air filter, less air in the chamber = less vtec tone. being a mechanic you should always start with the basic.
Vtec also engages based on oil PSI. low oil PSI because of low oil = probles with Vtec. As for burning oil, it's not uncommon to see the newer 06-09 Si "burn" oil. If you hit vtec often make sure to check your oil level. and never fully trust the digital oil meters in your dash, they can be a false sense of security. If it is a computer problem (i doubt it) you can try to restart it by unplugging the negative terminal on the battery for a 5 min. Be prepared to unlock your radio and reset your clock. to be of further assistence could you give some info? How many miles do you have? Driving habbits? Do mantain your car regularly? What oil do you use? What aftermarket Mods do you have if any? Basewith a few of these we can filter the out the cause and come to a conclusion |

The vtec change over sounds different all the time somtimes it has a deep pop like a rubberband and other times it has a mild change over. You are still getting max horsepower no matter how it sounds the colder it is the deeper it sounds. If you have a cold air intake and a throttle body spacer it tends to be a very loud and deep change over. Theres no need to worry about it unless you hear nothing at all than your either really low on oil or your engine is effed up. Good luck.
