Civic 06 EX Sdn - AC SUCKS.
I Already have 1600k milles in my Ex , doing 26 Mpg, i tried sometimes to open the moonroof to save on gas, but the heat here in miami it's just to much. I starting to notive the AC really sucks in this car, it takes at least 5 to 6 blocks to cool and when i stop , it gets really weak, then when i hit the gas after a looonnng red light it blows HOT.
My Hybrid didn,t have this problems . What's wrong with this car,,? I'm really getting upset, I drove some friend s for lunch, we were four and it was 95 outside but it felt like 150 inside, everyone was asking,Do you have the AC ON..? I had to change to D3 in desperation to get more Cold. It didn't work..What a nice piece of SH$%@# ,,I bought...

I am in Florida as well and have noticed in this car if I drive really fast the A/C actually suffers. So basically I would cruise up to like 75 MPH on the turnpike and then back off to like 65 MPH, amazing enough when I did that the AC actually works better. This happened to my previous Japanese designed cars so figured it's the norm. It's not biggie for me because it takes a few minutes to cool off inside thanks to my Ivory interior.

Hmm. I spent a week in Florida last month. I've got an EX sedan as well. I didn't notice any problems. Might want to take the car back to the dealer and have them check it out.

Yep, my A/C works just fine. If you take the time to search, you will find some threads explaining why the A/C is not like the old GM cars. The civic has a great air conditioner, in a great car.
Also, with only 1600 miles on the car, you should not expect much better gas mileage. The engine needs to break in first. Your mileage will improve with time. When I bought my coupe, I got 28 mpg on the first tank, steadily increased from there. I now have 12,000 miles on the car, and can't get less than 36 mpg, no matter how I drive. Highest mpg was 40.2 so far. |

I haven't had a problem with my AC. Feels very powerful to me. It served me well in the 105 degree weather we had in NY last week. I've never had to use the highest setting. Although I think the AC compressors in the Si and non-Si models may be different and that may be why they feel different.

i'm in the texas heat and have noticed that my AC is also weak. if i park outside the AC will take a minimum of 5 minutes to even approach what I would consider cool air. i just assumed they designed it to be weak to improve gas mileage and am surprised to hear others say they aren't having a similar issue...maybe we should let the dealers check it out. p.s. i was also getting poor gas mileage (30mpg) at first (LX manual sedan), but now at 1700 miles my last tank jumped to 38mpg. i also somehow managed to put 13.4 gallons of gas into a 13.2 gallon tank, but that's another discussion. |

You obviously have other problems with the Civic than just the AC. Well sorry to see you take the Yaris, but if you feel that suits you better, so be it.
I drove around in 110F degree weather the other day and I have to admit that the AC isn't really effective in that kind of heat. I do use the AC when temps rise above 70F on the freeway. If it's around the low-70s and I have my AC on at the coldest setting with the fan at the lowest setting, I do often feel really cold. So in my experience, the AC works like the AC in most other cars. It works great/too well in cool weather and not too great in blistering hot weather. |

The only thing that I noticed on my Civic with the A/C is, when you accelerate the A/C compressor kicks off, but when it gets up to speed it kicks back on and works good. I think that the A/C has a cut off switch upon acceleration on the Civic. I'm not too sure if anyone else noticed the same thing with the civic. My patrol car, the 04 CVPI has the coldest A/C ever. When idling at a 100+ degrees outside the car is putting out 35 degree air.

The Civic's weak A/C is well known among 8thcivic.com, edmunds.com, autos.msn.com, autos.yahoo.com, etc...
From a cooling point of a view it's highly ineffective. I think Honda should have enabled some type of override for those of us that are willing to give up a few mpgs for a normal functioning unit. The car's passenger cooling system has a number of things going against it including the huge-ass minivan windshield which creates a greenhouse effect in the car. |

I keep my house at 70 degrees all the time and I think the civic AC works great I have no issues with it even when it is 107 outside. I park my car in a garage at work and in a garage at home. Maybe that helps. Also get tinted windows if you dont already. That will help out also with blocking the heat.
