oh... and THANK YOU for searching instead of just making a new thread for your question. Most people dont do that. Its refreshing to know some people can still attempt to find answers on their own

Anyone know of a good receiver that I would be able to read pressure/temp since I understand that the sensors broadcast this info even though the stock TPMS receiver doesn't have a way to display it. I'm doing a long term study on the effects of pressure on MPG and one of the variables I have to track is the temperature.

I bought a new '08 Honda Civic several months ago. A few weeks ago I had a blowout and after the new tire was put on the low pressure light stayed on. Shortly thereafter I returned to the dealership where I bought the car and asked them what it would take to disable the light, figuring it wouldn't cost anything. Instead I was told that it would cost $170 to replace a sensor. I was also told that perhaps the guy who changed my tire had inadvertently damaged the sensor. Or that it could've been damaged when the blowout occurred. Anyhow, my dealer wanted to charge me $170 to replace it! My brother who's in the tire business advised me to just forget about it and drive with the light on, which is what I've done. Then last week I noticed that the low pressure light had gone out but that a new light, TPMS, had come on and is still on. I'm figuring that if no damage was done driving with the low pressure light on, then it's probably okay to drive with the TPMS light on. At any rate, I can't see paying $170 per sensor anytime I have a similar problem. I figure if there's really a problem, my warranty should cover it.
When I first informed my salesperson about the low pressure light staying on, he told me that my car was under warranty and I would not be charged to turn it off. Obviously, the service department told me differently. In the meantime, I continue to drive with the TPMS light on, hoping that all is okay. |

however, I think the $170 likely included the new sensor, mounting and rebalancing the tire and reprogramming the sensors... im not sure. Either way, it shouldve been covered under warranty i asusme correct

ok, since this hasn't been brought up yet, is there any way at all to disable the TPMS completely? What i mean is since I have wheels that dont have tmps' and my light is always on, can we trick the car to think that it does have them OR can we disable the system altogether?
And from what Hondata just told us on the Flashpro thread, page 37: "TPMS is not controlled from the ECU." How and where is it controlled? Wish there was just a fuse to pull like the DTRL... |

Currently Im unaware of a way to 'trick' the system. The common 'sensors in a pressurized pvc pipe' doesnt work.
If its not controlled by the ECU, then im not sure what else it would be controlled by.

The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is controlled by the TPMS control unit. There's no way to disable the TPMS system without illuminating the TPMS light and setting a variety of communication DTC's. The TPMS control unit communicates with the ECM/ PCM and gauge control module (tach) via the F-CAN communication network.

Good info ^
Im not sure why the light bothers os many people. If you 'dont need the idiot light', then just ignore it. IMO its not any more annoying than the lights that tell you your headlights/foglights are on.

re-read the 1st post in this thread. the user manual is wrong. you CAN disable vsa. I do it on a weekly basis at the drag strip
