Unhappy Help...Snaped a bolt.

Well I was cleaning my engine bay, just wiping stuff off and what not. I wanted to get under Intake Manifold and i was taking off the nuts to take it off, and I didn't realize that you only had to take off two bolts.

Getting to the point, putting back the cover and the other three bolts i managed to break the bolt holding on the valve cover?...

Is it safe to drive with this off, and what do I have to do to fix it? Complicated?

EEk.

Should be safe driving.. but eventually I'd take off the cover and try to back it out.

That's just to valve cover right? If so, it's perfectly fine. Whenever you get a chance, pull it off and get a new one from Honda.

Your fine...just get a new one when you get a chance. You just have to take off the valve cover and remove the rest of that bolt and put the new one on. oh btw, don't torque the valve cover bolts to 'spec', most of the time they will snap.

Take it to Honda and have them easy out it. It would be costly if you tried to drill the bolt out yourself, and screwed the hole up.

Vice grips would do, just clamp it on tight and twist off.

You don't need to drill anything...

Under that metal cap there is a rubber grommet that seals the valve cover so oil does not come out of there. Not exactly sure how violently the oil moves inside there but I wouldn't drive the car as is.

Try to remove the metal cap only and try to bolt the acorn nut onto the snapped bolt so you may get a good seal. If you drive around as-is it might vibrate off and fall while you drive.

In order to remove the snapped head bolt you have to remove the valve cover and and use a long tube socket to remove. I believe a 12mm. Once you remove the snapped bolt place a new one in and torque to spec and reassemble the valve cover.

This is what it looks like once the VC is off....

This is just like the bolt you snapped bu in a different spot on the head...

oh....make sure you get the shorter bolt. All but one bolt is short. DO NOT get the long one.

Run down to Sears and buy a Grabit set...it'll make it easy to get the bolt out.

One side of the Grabit bit drills a starter slot into the remnants of the old bolt...then you flip it and it backs the bolt out nice. Worth the ~$30...you'll use it for more than just this anyway.
