Engine overheating !

well, I was driving home one day and I notice that my engine temp. was going way up, so I decided to go to the dealership to check it out. After about like a day of checking what's wrong they came to the conclusion that my coolant was leaking into my engine.

So now they have to replace my whole engine and I won't be without my sexy car for a week =(

lucky I was still under warranty, so no charge for me =D

new R18 ftw? lol

Haha Honda has no problem replacing engines under warranty but when it comes to the SI third gear issue they seem to turn their heads the other way

Wasn't there a recall for coolant leaking into the engine block?

Because EVERYONE has the problem. And they would gladly relace this engine under this circumstance to gain knowledge as to why the engine failed. This is actually worth more for Honda. Honda knows the problem with our transmission but wil NOT replace every transmission box. I heard there are 15000 Si's a year. That's roughly 45000 gearboxes. Gets expensive. I still wouldn't let them take apart my transmission because I know it won't be the same once they put things back together.

does it matter which type of coolant we use?

I had to put more coolant in my car and noticed the previous coolant was color blue and the coolant I put it was color green.

This is what i really want to know. just like when you buy an item at a store and the item is defective and you get 30 days to return it but you exchange it like say.. 15 days after you buy it... so do u get new 30 days on ur new product of just 15 days left?

If they replace your engine with one day left on your warranty you have one day left. Your warranty doesn't start over. Now, the work itself may be covered for a certain amount of time. For example, they may have a policy that states that their work is guaranteed for a certain amount of time. But I would find out and not assume, because that may not be the case with warranty work.

This is the same for something you buy at a store. If you have a 30 day warranty and exchange it after 15 days you still only have 15 days left. The warranty is from the original purchase guaranteeing you the product will work for 30 days from the original purchase date. If they replace it at 15 days for free you aren't getting a new warranty.

Honestly it probably won't be an issue. However, technically you aren't supposed to mix the two. Most parts stores sell a coolant that is compatible with any color (usually it is almost clear or yellow). The color is really just so you can tell them apart, the difference is in the additives they use.

I can't honestly say I've ever personally witnessed what happens if you mix types, but the additives supposedly react to one another and you aren't supposed to mix them.

damnit.

the blue coolant was nearly gone though ( i would say about 1/4 of a cup was there left of it)

Your powertrain warranty is good for 60,000 miles. You still had quite a bit of warranty left on it. Your issue is pretty big as it was addressed in a TSB released by Honda on July 4th.

Quote:
Engine Overheats or Leaks Coolant

SYMPTOM
The engine is leaking coolant and may be overheating.

PROBABLE CAUSE
The engine block is cracking at the coolant passages.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install a new engine block assembly
