Power usage = RPM drops

When at idle the car is at about 650-675 rpm with AC off
And when i turn on the lights or wind the windows down - power usage
The RPM drops for a second to 600-625 or so. Is there something that can be done or something i can add on to avoid this

Thanks is advance

That's normal. It sholdn't drop over a hundred RPM. If I turn the AC on which draws the most amps and puts another load on the engine, the rpm needle just glitches. Definitely doesn't dip below a 100 rpm.

I think that it does drop below 100rpm for a very split second when you turn on the AC because of the Momentary draw in extra load. ob course we have to remember that this isnt to say that it is going to spin 100 less cyles in 1 minutes, hence Rate Per Minute as alot of us will think about it in that way. So lets say your car idles at 600 rpm that would mean the car would make 10 cycles every second. when you turn on the A/C then perhaps that draw in extra load will cause it to "skip" a cycle because of the extra load Thus you get 9 cycles in that second instead so that is why it would show up as 540 RPM for that brief second

scangauge

I have a scangauge connected
so i can see the RPM a lot more accurately than the dash needle and it does drop more than 100 rpm and the timing changes as well

I was wndering if there is something out there that dampens this effect so its not so prominent

Unfortunately (to a lot of people at least) the idle is not easily adjustable. The idle speed is controlled by the ECU and DBW actuator. Changing the idle would require reprogramming the ECU.

Get a V8.

Other than that don't worry. Honda knows how to build engines.

My last car was a HEMI Ram truck and the idle drop was horrible when I ran lights windows or AC. Worse than my SI.

It's normal on any car I would think. I can't imagine a way to get rid of it. Any time you put extra load on anything it's gonna slow down at least for a split second while it adjusts to the new load.

It is perfectly normal. You hard putting more load on the motor so it has to work harder.

That was your problem. Dodge is just as horrible as it's always been. Don't get a Dodge. There's a reason they're so cheap.
Also, I like how your last car was a truck. Got a pic of the cartruck?

car feels like it stalls

Ok so Im driving on the freeway you know my daily usuall routes to work 15 to 20 minutes. Usually once I get off the freeway and I stop at the first light my car idles correct and then the car suddenly bleeps or revs to 1k and drops back down. I saw it last night when I was paying attention to it. The RPMS drop like its about to stall and then bleeps back up? Does anyone know if this is regular or has this happened to someone else?? Theres no ac or anything. This has been happening for 2 weeks.

DBW actuator!!! thats the solution I THINK. why not just adjust the bolts on the gas pedal so that it increases the gas a small amount then when you are idling it will idle a lil higher. Perhaps maybe it used to be at the proper adjustment and now that you mashed on the gas pedal so much that the screw is loosening out?

From past experiences I can tell you that aftermarket intakes tend to throw the idle of a little.. If you search for Idle hunt you will see that one of the ones that tend to do this more than others will be the Fuita Sri....

Also one other thing that may cause idle hunt will be if the car has not had the idle learn procedure done after ANY kind of mod is done to the car...

I actually never really smashed my gas pedal to the floor. twice I can count I have. I really love my car and want it to last for awhile. So no vtecing to much especially the gas. But I will take that into account

ok for sure. I think i might switch back to my stock drop in filter, and see if it does this. Maybe clean my K and N. Ill research it though. ANYONE ELSE KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE?
