1st gear problem

I have noticed that while approaching a stop sign and slowing down if I put it in 1st gear (to accelerate quicker) that there's a slight resistance in the gear box...it doesn't grind into gear but you almost have to force it into gear. Does any ones alhave any insight as to what this problem mght be? Has anyone else encountered this problem?

My '08 Si coupe does the same, I don't think it's any type of mechanical issue, more like a safety to avoid the car engaging 1st gear at a speed that's too high for the gear, even if it is a very slow indicated speed. Just keep it in 2nd till the car approaches 5 or less mph then it shouldn't resist into 1st at that point.

My 2nd gear is a little harder to go into when downshifting and so is my 1st. I feel like it's pretty normal. I never really down shift into 1st though... lowest I go is 2nd and if I'm going to stop then I just pop it into neutral and brake.

^ yeah i always feel this and it sort of is a safety precaution
i was going 37 and i was on the phone and we were talking about
leaving a stop sign so me i imagine it in my head and try to shove it into
first. Luckly the force of putting it in gear stopped me to actually put it
into first.

37 in first wouldn't have been too bad, you'd of slowed down below top of 1st before over revving it.

Honda are not easy to downshift into 1st. You hit a wall and it slides in after a second or so.

Its a safty thing. If you put pressure on first and not jam it in.. it will finally fall in gear when its at a safe speed.

Mine does the same thing and about putting it in reverse. I can try to put in in reverse while rolling backwards at 1 mph and my car is like DO NOT WANT. haha.

whenever I'm rollling back on a driveway then try to put it in reverse it's hard but in reverse I always shove it in gear. I did that it grinded my gears so I have to come to a complete stop. so that could be why it's hard to get in gear because they want you to come to a full stop.

Ugh... FIRST time in my new FA5. I was rolling backwords and go to put it in reverse. GRINDDDDDDDDDD. 1 MPH lol. Never again. Worst feeling ever grinding reverse the first time you go to drive it.

you guys are new to manual arnt you?, no biggie, its all normal.

You need to be 90% accurate in your revs... you can be going 20mph and still get it into first or reverse...

"1" and "R" dont have synchros amd can not mesh the gears when they are too far out of range...

long story short i traded my lx for an si, and on my lx i could with no problem pop it into first gear at 10 mphs while im slowing down. but i do that with my si, and it hits something, then goes in all the way. it feels so freaken bad. what the hell is up with that =(
