Engine whine on R18 after filter re-oiling

Like the title says. I changed my oil 3rd change now. I also decided to clean my KN drop in filter. I cleaned with the solution, rinsed, waited a couple of hours so it was dry and re oiled. I realized that i started spraying oil on the clean side instead of the former dirty side, waited 20 mins and put the filter back in. Now my engine makes a funny whining noise as if it whistling , it gets loud at around 2.5k rmps and up... Do you think I put too much oil? Should I re-clean and oil on proper side? Its damn annoying!

if it's whistling, maybe you didn't assemble the airbox correctly and air is leaking "past" the filter's seal?...go back and make sure the box is all buttoned up correctly

If you put the oil on the wrong side, and you knew it, why the heck did you install it? If you read the directions, it says if you accidently put oil on the wrong side, clean it and start over.

Like the other guy said, make sure you clipped all the clips and check for air leaks.

The first time i cleaned/oiled it, I took my sweet time because i didnt wanna mess up. If youre doing something for the first time, just make sure you have plenty of time so you arent in a rush and mess things up

Yup i'm oiling it again right now, dirty side only, and it was re-cleaned. I hope this time it will be done 100% perfect.

I'm a bit confused about something...I've been using K&N fiflters for several years on the past several cars I've owned, currently have one in my GTI(going on 5 yrs with it) and when I opened the package the filter comes oiled from the factory and guess what? the entire filter element was oily on both sides since the cotton gauze just absorbs all of the oil...having said that what difference does it make what side gets oil? once you spray the oil all of it gets absorb throughout the whole element anyway, the 2 occasions I've sprayed mine I did the "filtering" side and it didn't matter since once the oil was absorbed, it looked like I had oil the entire filter and that's with me being conservative with the oil...you guys obviously haven't seen how you oil the circular(donut) filters, you dunk the whole thing in oil...just as long as you don't over do it you should be fine

Update: I put the freshly re-oiled filter in, and it still whistled for a few km while driving and then it stopped.... I'm stumped... if it doesn't happen anymore I will be extremely happy. If it does i'll reset the ECU as my next step. If that doesn't work I'm going to the dealership with my paper filter in and ask them to take a look at the car.
