Steering wheel LOCKS while driving!!! whats going on!!!

SO this happened about 7 times this year.

I start the car, turn the wheel and start moving like 5mph and then the steering wheel just stops turning! It feels as if the power steering just shut off and then an orange steering wheel sign comes on my dash board. EVERYTHING else is working fine, the gas the breaks... so i turn off the car and turn it back on and everything is normal again...

I thought something was wrong, but today, I was actually driving 40mph local and it happened!! I was freaking out cause I couldn't turn my steering wheel! There was the orange steering wheel sign. Does anybody know why it is doing this? Did this happen to anyone else? Let me know please!

what civic model do you have? is it one equipped with electric steering?

Sounds like you have a Civic SI as the R18s don't have the orange EPS icon. Something's faulty with the EPS motor in this case.

Could be EPS related.

I wouldn't fool around with it...just take it to your dealer and have them look at it and fix it.

You might even want to consider towing it,this could be dangerous and may cause you to have an accident!!!

that is some scary stuff right there. does it feel like it gets really, really hard to move or does it completely lock? either way though, you need to take it to get it fixed, i'd be freaking out and scared to drive it.

Dang...its dangerous to drive with wheel lock up...Have dealer check it out for you man...I still want to see some civic out there, not some wrecked on the street....Hurry up and have it fix man...

I smell BS. You can still steer the car with the PS off. Just turn your key off while coasting and wait until the PS quits, it's stiff as hell but you can still get around any corner.

^^^ very true. but its still insanely dangerous if your in mid turn or going in between lanes.

I don't know why the first X number of times weren't enough of a clue to take that in.. but count yourself lucky not to have wrecked. Take it to the dealer and stress just how not impressed you were.
