I have a smelly clutch, please help! :-S

Hey guys. I drove the car hard last night and when I parked at home the car smelled of rubber and pads and what not (what it should smell like). The car was left all night and day to rest, but when I got back in the car today the minute I got out the wretched smell of burnt clutch was everywhere. Its not that I'm not pushing in the clutch all the way when shifting and I don't play with it at stop lights or keep it engaged when stationary, it just started today. Its not the brakes cuz I know what they smell like and the smell comes from the engine bay as well (right where the clutch is). It goes away when I turn off the car, but if left cooling, the instant I turn the car on the smell comes out again (this is in neutral, just seconds after turning the car on).

The car drives fine, in fact, just exactly the same as before, but the smell is worrisome. I'm gonna take it in tomorrow but any of you guys know whats wrong? The car only has 4000 miles and it was like a night and day thing (all of a sudden). Any ideas?

You drove the car hard, it will take a few days for the smell to go away. I slipped my LGT clutch pretty bad racing an E46 M3 out of a light, it smelled for a good 3 days. I beat him too, but my Suby wasn't stock..

What mmm_def said, it will take a few days for the smell to go away. I burnt my clutch bad one night too and the smell was there for a few days and finally went away....take it easy because the clutch won't last long if you keep doing that. Could be the brakes too though if you were hard braking.

could this happen where you just feather the clutch way more than you should. cus i engine brake a lot to see how good the engine can slow the car (experimenting).

I'd say - use your brakes. Don't engine brake. I always say - what's cheaper to replace... your engine/tranny - or brake pads. More wear and tear on your engine/tranny

Agreed to the aformentioned. Your engine is good keeping your car from speeding up while going downhill and whatnot, but you should use your brakes to slow down. Then learn heel toe downshifting and you can still enjoy downshifting while slowing the car.
