inacurate gas guage issues anyone?

Does anyone have problems with the gas guage not being precise?

I mean sometimes mine loses 2-3 bars and gains it back again after a while and no I wasn't parked on a steep hill. This happens sometimes when I'm on flat surface.

I remember the G35C had a TSB where the gas tank says it has gas when it's actually empty...

Sometimes my gas light turns on saying I'm almost empty and a few minutes later a couple bars come up and the light goes away, Does this have something to do with the gas sender sensor or something?

I'm no mechanic, but I'm sure the gauge is feeding from a sensor in the tank. If the sensor is faulty, it may cause your symptoms. My Si surely doesn't do anything like that, even on a hill.

I've had other cars do that but that's mainly because I live on a steep hill and my driveway is quite steep. I'll pay attention today when i get in my car and see if it does it.

The issue with accuracy and the Civic's gauge is the topic of numerous threads in several forums. Its not the greatest.

I put "gas guage" in the search filter

I've noticed when hovering closer to empty that I will suddenly drop 2 bars over the span of a few miles which is deffinitely out of character from how it acts the rest of the time.

Heh, many folks call it by other things like "segmented fuel display" and "Fuel Meter". I found a few below with a quick search. Also, you can search over at ToV. There have been a number there as well.

Segmented Fuel display

Fuel Capacity

brakes and gas!!

I also believe there are a few complaints about it buried somewhere in this thread, but I did not want to page through the whole thing:

Mine has been pretty much dead on. When I get down to no bars showing I have about 3/4 gallon of gas left. It's been consistent with the bar displays since day one.

I would have yours checked out by the dealer. As jasonandre was pointing out, it's probably a faulty sensor.

Mine has lost/gained 1 bar while on hills, but thats about it and thats normal for any car to read slightly less/more due to incline, but you might have a problem...

Well that's the problem right there... Or in the words of Google.

"Did you mean: gauge "

well the tank is more narrow on the lower half (as it comes to the pipe) so that's why it flows faster. but mine has been saying 43L empty which after filling it to a full tank everytime is weird cuz it should hold 50L!
