he's talking about when you rev the engine in park or neutral it only allows up to 5500 rpm...I thought it was strange too...but it's probably there for a good reason.

I thought that was to help reduce wheel spin at harder launches? Why would you want to eliminate that?

Now why would you want to rev your engine higher.. you can already peel out.. waste more gas?

Dry-revving an engine (revving an engine in neutral) is extremely bad for an engine because it has no load whatsoever. baaad.

Maybe someone with "Hondata" might be able to answer that for you.
I do remember this being talked about a couple months ago, so try a search .
( maybe "neutral rev limit" )might bring up what you're looking for .

dry revving, mentioned by si civic, is bad because the engine was designed to have load on it while climbing through the RPM's. On this car...even on the R18A, RPM's raise on a dime. I suggest you not look for a way to take this out because your car was designed not to do that. As for hard launches, they already peel out when you kick it up to 4500RPM as you drop the clutch.

he is refferring to a 13 second civic that is boosted.....they could care less about a launch limiter, thats why they want to eliminate it. theyre trying to launch with boost. although that would be crazy wheel spin unless you had slicks.

I remember being at the dragstrip and was able to bypass the rev limit by slightly letting the cluthc pedal out a tad (little clutch slip). I do not reccomend this with a stock clutch. Made for a bad ass launch. I was in the 2.1's in the 60ft on all seasons.

The rev limit is activated by something in the clutch pedal(sensor) or possibly a speed sensor. More than likely the clutch pedal.

your rev won't go up above 5500RPM cause V-TEC point is at 5800RPM.. so i guess vtec ingages only if your car is running forward.. IMO..

I can peel out fine bouncing off 5500. And I launch a little under 4k. And revving is bad in neutral? I would think it'll do damage if you're bouncing off the revlimter at 8000 for 10 minutes or something. But I doubt ANY damage will occur revving an engine for 5 minutes at 3,000 rpm. Especially when majority of honda service manuals tell you to rev the engine at 3,000k until the cooling fans come on to reach operating temperature when it usually takes even longer than 5 minutes.

Are you sure it's really not asking you to drive up to 3,000 rpm, which is completely different than sitting in neutral at 3,000 rpm.
