My key fob opens other cars...

Well, at least my mothers 05 Accord...Apparently my mom grabbed my keys instead of hers and they opened her truck and car door. She then put the key in the ignition and no ignition...so she realizes she has the wrong keys...

Anyone else heard of this? We bought our cars at the same dealer...weird...

I'll keep you guys updaed on what they say...clearly this is not good though...

Thanks you're cementing my want for a secondary security system.

My dad opened an identical 97 Dodge Intrepid ES when he was at the gas station, that he had parked next to, and he only realized after he got into the car that it wasn't ours, because it had leather.

Both the cars were locked, and he used our cars keys.

Scary.

Happened to my mom with the old Jetta we had.

There is bound to be similar frequencies on the keys with the amount that they make, its just a freak occurance that someone in your area may have the same one.

My $0.02

Thats not good there has to be more than a million different frequencies right? Man I can just picture some pro car jacker with some kind of device that can omit different radio frequencies to open my car.

Sadly, I believe this technology is already available...

it is and if u use your fob they can pick up the FQ with and use it to open your doors. some new cars have a modulating FQ so its harder.

Hmm... Maybe your moms car was already unlocked?!?! I don't think our keys will do this, I've tried it many times.

According to Wikipedia: "Key fob is a chain used to secure a pocket watch to an article of clothing, or any ornament that hangs from such a chain. This includes items hanging off a keychain. The term is also used when referring to electronic security key devices."

unless we are stuck in the 90s, remotes no longer just use discrete frequencies to identify a fob to a system. That was way back when you could open other people's garage doors.

Now they not only frequency hop (i.e. use a different one every one, the fob is synched to the system), but are typically also coded.

If this happened, that means something is seriously wrong with the default security level provided by honda.
