Going from a full synthetic back to a semi-syn blend...

Does anyone know if there are any detrimental effects to engine components when someone switches from a fully synthetic oil such as Mobile1 back to a semi-syn blend?

The reason I am asking is because I've now gone back to a semi-syn blend after running MOBIL1 full syn for over 25K miles. Not by choice mid you... The wonderful service folk at a local Dallas Honda dealership goofed up and dropped 4 quarts of a semi-syn blend into my 06 EX. This is even after I specifically told the service advisor that I only wanted MOBILE1 full syn. He even highlighted the note on the service order to make sure the techs didn't miss it, but they ended up missing it anyway.

So, what should I do? I didn't have time to wait for another 45 minute oil change as I had to be back to my office in 10 minutes for a meeting. The Service Manger comped my oil change and sent me on my merry way.

Should I be concerned or be happy that I got a fee oil change and a carwash?

It is not a problem. You can switch oils at any time with no ill effect. Drive 3000 miles on the semi and change to Mobol 1 for the winter months.

no problems unless you have a high mileage engine, then it is not reccomended to change between syn and non-syn oils.

Alright, thanks guys. I had heard in the past that it was bad for your engine to change switch back to DINO juice from a full synthetic oil, so i was a bit worried.

as it was stated it is only bad if you do it on a high mileage engine that is used to a certain type of oil. The only other time you may run into a problem is if you constantly go back and forth. But to cause any really problems you would have to switch from synthetic to regualr every 300 miles for a couple years. Good luck!

Not a problem at all, i would be concerned if i was running synthetic for 150,000 miels and then put in dino oil.....i might be worried. If you stay on a set pattern/schedule the way you do it.....youll be fine.
