oil to low on dip stick

so i changed the oil on my SI
i put in 4.6 quarts of oils and according to the dip stick
i need to put in way more oil. it marks the oil just under the first hole closest to the tip.
i mean the si takes 4.6 quarts, right???
should i just put all 5 quarts in or will that mess up my car?

i dumped 5 quart and it just barely made it to the middle mark. then after 2k miles it went down but still on top of the first dot. then i dumped another .5 quart in, now im good. i remember the first time i drove with low oil before cause i didn't know this car eat oil until i made a sharp turn and saw the low oil pressure light on for a split second then im like ohhh Sh** wth. so came home and checked it, and it was a little under the first dot. so i just added .8 quart in to get it back. anyways be sure to check your oil once in a while.

your car might not be loosing oil. Make sure you are starting the car before you check the oil level for the final time. If your oil is full, then you drive it and the oil goes down, it is more than likely because you didn't check it after the oil filter filled up.

don't take my word for it though.. If your car is losing oil somewhere that is not good and you should investigate further. Most new 4cyl cars (civics included) hold around 5 qts.
