wrong downshifting, couple of questions

hello there guys,

lots of questions to ask after downshifting my car into the wrong gear

what happened is I was ganna downshift to 4th, and by mistake, I went to 2nd - Idiot, I know I just don't know how did that happen, what was I thinking of , it was less than half a second, nothing weired happened, It just revved up high

the car drives and feels great, but there is little shaking when reversing, I'm not sure if that got anything to do, or if it's one of the ingalls powerstick things that I have to get used to

what should I look for or get checked

This didn't make any constant noise when driving shifting or idling the car

any comments are welcome, but I wish there are more educated ones than "what were you thinking?" comments

-Ashraf

Honestly, you should be fine. I had a RSX Type S with the K20A2 in there. It was my first manual car. I was crusing in 6th gear and was going to downshift to 4th, but put it into 2nd. I revved way past 9000rpms. Like my needle was pointing straight down. Didn't blow the motor or anything. Got lucky I suppose, but these motors are also built well.

2nd can handle ...approx 54-56ish...@ 8200 rpm

U possibly went to approx 8800-8900 rpm in 2nd......considering ur speed was 64mph.

Ur tranny and engine should be fine.....

To make myself feel better, Id switch to mobile 1 .....just for comfort.

I don't think you would have caused any problem. I'm suprised you were able to drop right in. I thought you're RPM's had to match to get in that low from so high a gear.

YOu don't have any problems other than this "shaking" in reverse?

that's what i was thinking, surprised it dropped into 2nd with no effort at all

no problems with the car, and I think the shaking is from the ingalls stick, it's in every gear since installed, it's just worse when reversing

Just kinda moitor the situation but don't be like "WHAT WAS THAT!!!????" you know. DOn't "examine" the whole deal. If something pops out t you then go from there. I don't think you'll have a prob though

Yea, you are just being over sensitive now. I know the feeling when something bad happens.

Don't worry!

Is there a way to prevent this mistake besides practice and paying attention?

well, we all makes mistakes, the only way that can prevent this is only if honda had some kind electronic lock or something stop you from shifting to the wrong gear if the speed is too high for that gear.
