HID Info

Hey guys

So i seek the help of the all knowing Civic pros. I am planning to get an HID kit. I am however in the dark on this subject, and do not know a darned thing.

Would you guys be able to help me with some information.

I have questions such as, do i need projector headlights to run HID's? If i dont, will it be good enough? Whats a good color temperature to get? Questions such as those.

Im sorry these questions may sound newbish, but in actuality they are

Also i keep seeing adds for HID kits for 140 when you go to the home of 8thcivic:
www.autoxsport.com Your #1 Source for Xenon HID Conversion Kit AUTO & MOTORCYCLE

Whats your guys' opinion on these?

so all in all i guess what i am asking is what in the hell do i need to get HID's in my car so i can see the gosh darn road better!

Thanks!!

Hey, you don't need projectors. Basically you can replace the 9006 halogen bulbs with HID bulbs. 9006 is the lowbeam one. The brightest ones are 4300k (kelvin) and go higher. However, the higher you go the weirder the color goes and you lose brightness. There isn't much point going past 6000K - pale blue/white unless you want to just use your lights for show.

I thought I read that you just couldn't put in HID bulbs?

How about that HID kit? www.autoxsport.com Your #1 Source for Xenon HID Conversion Kit AUTO & MOTORCYCLE
Anyone try this?

yah well thats the one i was asking about as well...

Well you can put in the whole HID kit, nad they can go in to reflector headlamps, from what i was told by wing_gundam.

Im really curious about the HID kit that J_bone and i were wondering about...

there are 2 basic hid types that one can choose.
1- plug n play kits- you have a ballast, ignitors, wiring, and bulbs that fit in your stock reflector housing

2- retrofit- this is the more expensive. more sickkkkk brighter, better cutoff, wider beam pattern ones.

the plug n play kit uses your stock housing and just puts in a really bright bulb.
pros- better than stock light output, cost less, easy to install
cons- crap cutoff, narrow beam pattern, potential to blind oncomming traffic

the retrofit uses a projector from another car (tsx, s2000, lexus, audi, etc etc). and they drill the projector to fit into the stock headlight housing.
pros- super great cutoff, wide beam pattern, super great driving, looks super wickeddd
cons- more expensive, you might mess up

lights..
4000k is yellow, 6000k is whitish, 8000k enters blue, 10,000k is entering purple.
higher the number, greater the temperature, less the light output.

sorry to correct you on this one, but 4100k-4300k is pure daylight brightness which = best light output. when you get under 4000k, like 300k for example, thats when it gets yellow. 6000k is a light hint of blue, and then you are correct from 8000k and on.

not trying to be rude, but just trying to put correct information out for everyone. i have an HID kit installed on mine thats 4300K and it really does look like daylight at night. auto manufacturers that include HIDs for their cars use only 4100K - 4300K if i remember correctly due to safety and function reasons. Its only their projectors that make it seem bluish when you see them. i hear going up to 6000K should be the furthest you stray from 4300K if you do want the hint of blue.

the further you go from 4300K, the worse the output lighting gets. don't get me wrong, they will still be bright and the hotspot will be dense with light, but the light around the hotspot will be much much weaker. in this case, if its a dark wet night, you wont be any better off than you were with the halogens.

hope this helps!

i like the Xentronix HID kits...their Digital unlike a lot of other HID kits around...they'll never flicker and wont turn off on one side...and the ballast are the smallest ballast in the world...
