okay, so you're wondering if the stock reflector can be replaced, or the reflector that makes up the back half of the projector?

The stock reflector. Basically have the back housing (black peice) and the clear lense with some other type of reflector.

Okay, I get it now
Yeah, I'm kind of unsure about how much of that to cut away. I may end up cutting more of it away and using something else to complete the "socket" (thinking ball-and-socket joint). Unfortunately, some of it has to stay, or else you'd end up losing the reflector for the high-beams.

Hey,

I am a member on HIDPlanet forums. I was browsing through this forum and found this thread.

I linked your thread over to HIDPlanet, and obviously credited you. I do however have some questions.

http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28547

I'm assuming the 06 civic has electric power steering, thats how your getting the inputs for the pbasic program?

With the swivel mount, have you considered retrofitting an entire afs casing? The RL, and RX330 headlights may be small enough to transplant the entire afs assembly so that all you would need to do is retrofit your servos and wiring.

ABS plastic may be another option for shrouding your projector, obviously there are also many OEM shrouds that may not be as cost effective.

I would like to tip my hat to you though, many members on HIDPlanet have pondered this same concept but I have yet to see any projects taken this far.

Hi!
Always good to see there's interest and I encourage questions... it gives me more ideas

I can't see the link unfortunately, so I may have to sign up

I actually hadn't thought about using the EPS signal... I was going to use a precision potentiometer, but that's a better idea... good call!
Nomar brought the AFS unit to my attention... the ones on ebay looked pretty huge so I really haven't looked at it any closer than that. It would be good to know the over dimensions of it, since height in the FG/FA housings is really tight.
This project is a huge challenge, and it's going to take a fair bit of time, but I hope I can manage it

If the headlights where taller I think you could get it to work. There just isnt enough room.

Hi Ivory,

I'm at work right now, but I will sign up at HIDPlanet when I get home tonight. If the AFS unit could work, I would MUCH prefer to use it since it's a tried and true component... though I will likely get the mechanical components of my system to work, the issue of longevity continues to worry me.
I really want to join now and see what other fans of the AFS system have to say... I'm stuck in meetings all afternoon, so the time might pass a little slowly

From what I can see, the M45 stepper harness has 6 pins and does not seem to be nearly as "easy" as the servo you have chose to work with. But if you want I can provide you pictures and perhaps you can come up with something to work with.

Haha, thanks... that's only if I get it to work though
Actually, I did submit an application to Alliston a few weeks ago... competition to get in is huge apparently, so I don't expect anything to happen soon, if at all.

Rep'd and subscribed (again!)

BTW - Nice to see the plastic housing is less conspicuous than expected. I thought your car was gonna have plastic testicles from the first couple of pics I saw

PS - Just because I can, this thread is stickied
