Should there be a wire going from the switch to ground?

Going with the assumption that the lights work with a controlled ground (so they will fade out with the domes), if you tapp into the factory circuit (If the resistance through the LEDs is not great enough, and I don't know if it is without having them in front of me) with the ground circuit tied into the switch, it will give the stock lighting a constant ground when the rocker switch is in the off position. , you may end up with dome lights that wont turn off as they usually have a constant positive to them. Anyway, there is no need for the ground on that terminal at all. Switches don't need grounds to operate unless it is a lighted switch.

huh? When the rocker switch is off, there will be no current running through it. the reason there is a ground on the switch is because it has a light on it.

You might want to put a fuse somewhere in there so the lights don't blow if there's a surge from the battery..just being cautious.

You can see in the pics above that the kit comes with a switch and has a fuse also. I cut their switch off and put on a 3-way. I'm not sure about the rating of the fuse.

I still haven't double checked my install...

huh, thats what I said. If it is a lighted switch than you will need the ground as stated. If its not a lighted switch then it is a single pole double throw switch which would switch the ground just like I said.

I'm sorry for confusing you. I didn't understand why adding these lights will give the stock lighting a constant ground. The reason i said there is a light on the switch is because I failed to mention it in my drawing.

Not a big deal. Do you understand now what I was trying to convey, or have I still confused you?

The supplied fuse is 1 amp. That should be enough for the whole pack of lights. LEDs pull very few watts.

Greetings ....

Based on the original diagram, wouldn't the switch need to be a single throw, double pole (one pole for +, and one for -), as the light ground is floating separate from chassis ground?

How are you planning to get a 3 way switch to be dome/on/off? are you going to use another power source? I really dont know how a 3 way switch works.

Okay, I tried the blue/pink wires today with a voltmeter and I got nothing... I tried it with the dome light on, off, door open, closed (to make the lights come on)... every combination, and nothing... I even tried every possible combination of pins in the harness. No luck + one wasted hour =
Can anyone shed light on what I might be doing wrong???

Thanks!
J

Hmmmm, could it be that you have a coupe and peliROJO's lighting was done on a sedan? Wasn't there another thread where somebody else that tapped into the dome lights on a coupe?

haha, "shed light"... nice pun.

Oh christ... I totally didn't mean the pun
Does peliROJO have a sedan? Didn't you do the LED mod too, and you have a coupe?
I think the other thread you were referring to was the one I started. PeliROJO posted a link to this thread in mine.
Please help me! I want to do the mod this weekend, and it's really bugging me! :)

No I haven't done the mod yet, I just posted a schematic for the wiring. I have an idea of a spot to tape into. This may seem stupid, but i was thinking about tapping the dome light wire leading up the a-pillar. Here is a pic...
