Arrow Anyone but a drop in HID Kit in???? How is the Cut off? Is Xetronic HID a good brand

Anyone but a drop in HID Kit in???? How is the Cut off? Is Xetronic HID a good brand?

I was at the car shop here in So.Cal. and they were telling me about the New HID kits they have in stock. I said I was not looking to get something that pissed off on coming cars.

They told me that when installed right the light is kept low and there will be no problems with on coming cars and the Law.

1.What I would like to ask is how is the CUt off on the stock 06 lights with HID set up?

2. What is the best color to get so you don't have run in's with the Law and what looks best?

3. Is Xetronic a good brand? There price is $400 is that a good price on these?

4. Is it best to go HID or just stick with PIAA Bulbs?

Thanks so much for all your guys help and insite. It's been a big help with my car.

1, well a "cut off" is not really a cut off without projectors. But the light output and line of light is actually pretty good IMO, I myself have HIDs installed without projectors and I find that it is actually not bad.. no hot spots and the way the headlights are placed on the new civics, it keeps the light low. when I'm about 10 M away from a car in front of me, the light gets no where near the top of their trunk.

2. the best temperature is what you should be asking. But it is 4300K, this is the same colour/temp that you see on BMW's, Lexus's, Mercedes etc.It is more of a white/yellow. I have 6000K's, so they are blue/white. 4300K is technically legal with projectors.

3. I've never heard of the brand. But personally I find that if the company or place that is installing or selling these HID's for you give you a guarantee of say 1 year, or 2 or lifetime. Then it wont hurt to give them a try, the temperature of the HIDs are generic among all brands, its just the reliability of them and in some cases, the brightness. But in the end, if you have a warranty, by all means try it. My kit was 420$ installed.

4. There is a lot of controversay with this topic. Some people will tell you go for it because projectors or no projectors, the light output of an HID bulb will be far superior to a halogen bulb. Some will say that if you aren't putting projectors, theres no point because you cant get the full potential that HIDs give, and you will have hot spots, blind oncoming traffic etc. so i can only answer the question from personal experience with the HIDs in the new civics... I find the light output is great, and I would take them over PIAA's, silverstars, or any other brand of halogens. I spent way too much on so many halogen bulbs and have been disappointed every time to waste more money on halogens.

sorry for the long explanation, but I prefer you be very well informed the first time, than to come back a second time.
good luck

HID light output will always be a lot more than any sort of Halogen bulb in a basic housing, even without projectors.

Personally, there'll be some staunch nay-sayers about going with just a basic HID Plug-n-Play kit. But from what I've seen, glare is minimal, and pictures don't actually show the whole story. Cameras take in light, and taking a picture in a low-light environment means the shutter will be open more...usually exaggerating the glare of the HIDs.

Anyway, I saw an FG2 with an HID PnP and it looked awesome. I'm still getting a retrofit done, because I want that cool starlight pattern, but it looked good enough. My old car...now THAT had glare problems, especially due to the older style halogen reflectors inside. It threw light EVERYWHERE...but the new civics have a much sharper definition, probably because of the shape of the cluster itself. I say go for it.

It's not like there's a real negative to it. And if you don't like those, well...there goes a good amount of cash.

I say go for it, people are really over exaggerating the glare. I have more problems with glare from trucks and suvs since its so high. And the the ones that claim that "true" HID's has projectors, well that is not true at all. There are cars with stock HID's that don't have projectors, they just don't feature the sought after cut-off line that projectors have. I had an 05 TL and my friend has a 04 G35 (06 has projectors), both were stock; mine had projectors while his G35 doesn't (the light is more scattered much like the PnP kits I've seen posted on here) but if you asked Nissan, they'll tell you that the G35 has HID's as its High Intensity Discharge not High Intensity Discharge With Projectors; so go ahead and order your kit. Just don't have them shooting up like the stars :)

You'll find that companies that USED to use reflector-based HID have by-and-large abandoned reflectors. Nearly all of the refreshed luxury cars with HID have projectors. Gotta wonder why, huh?

damn. as i drove back to riverside from Santa Barbara, i realized that lotta ppl gots HID's now, whether projector stock, or aftermarket pnP kits. Projectors are noticable, very sharp and crisp from an oncoming traffic point of view. I have pnP, Phillips 4300k, but it still looks good. bright as fu**. I had to aim my headlights down a lil bit though. I paid 400 for my kit, with Phillips bulbs and ballas (german). I dunno bout your all jap kit for 4 bills though. all Jap kits should be going for around 300.

it is minimal bc it's aimed downwards.
