High Beam question

Are the high beams allowed to come on by themselves? I noticed this when installing yellow DRLs...

With low beams off:
When i pushed the stalk foward, the high beams would not turn on, nor would the indicator turn on. When i pulled the stalk toward me (flash-to-pass), the highs WOULD turn on, BUT my low beams would also turn on.

With low beams on:
When i pushed the stalk foward, the high beams would turn on. When i pulled the stock, they would also turn on. I know this is normal.

I'm concerned about "with low beams off". When flash to pass, are the lows supposed to come on? Or did i mess some wiring up when installing PNP a while ago. Also, are the highs not supposed to come on without the lows?

Thanks

another question... I accidently touched one of the old DRL bulbs. Would isopropyl alchohol clean it?

Yes, on our Civics, all 4 bulbs are on when the high beams are on.

I used to have an old Saturn that had the same 9004/9005 combo, and the lows would turn off when the highs were on.

I like all 4 on, since you get the distance and close to the car illumination. Plus it's bright as hell when you have to flash some drunk bastard on the highway who won't dim his lights LOL!

Wiping the bulb with the alcohol should be fine. You just want all the oil from your skin off it.

totally normal operation for the 8th gen. Did you remove the DRL fuse from the fuse box in the driver's kick panel? You could damage your kit if you don't.

the DRLs are your daytime running lights, they put low voltage through your high beams so that other cars can see you better during the day, they come one when your headlights are off and your car is in drive (auto tranny) or you release your parking break (manual tranny). The fuse is in the fuse box next to the hood release it's labeled "DRL". I highly suggest you pull it.

Would it be possible to use fog lights as the DRLs instead of your high beams so that you'd still have DRLs but wouldn't mess with your high or low beams?

No lol. I guess thats why we werent really understanding each other lol

I have HIDs in my Lows.

When my lows are off and i flick my highs on, my lows will turn on with the highs. I just wanted to know if the lows were supposed to come on when i flash the highs.

Can somebody answer my question please?

With the low beams in the off position, while flashing the high beams, are the lows supposed to flash with the highs?

yes, it's normal for the low beams to come on when your headlights are off and you pull the stalk towards you. and don't worry about the drl fuse, I misunderstood what you were saying.

also means if you have PnP HIDs in your lows that they will attempt to turn on when you "flash to pass"...try not to turn on and turn off the HIDs in quick succession as it will lower the overall life of the bulb. as for cleaning the old drl with isopropyl, I'm not sure if that would work, don't see why it wouldn't, but I don't know what would happen so don't quote me on that.

PS: when your panic button/"alarm" goes off it flashes the low beams on and off which could potentially damage the HID bulbs...I'm currently trying to figure out how to disable that.

I've got a 55 watt ebay PnP kit on my brights and constantly turn them on and off due to oncoming traffic, I've put close to a 100,000 miles on 'em without any problems.
