Improve Ebay Headlights

Is there a way to improve the ebay headlights you all hate so much? I want to get a ricey black housing one with halos and LEDS. Literally everything you all hate.

I want to know if any of you can put aside your hatred of ebay and rice and see if there is any way to make these more reliable. Is there something that would make them not garbage? Can I seal it better or something like that. I don't really know why you all avoid them other than the looks. If it is just the looks then I will be fine since I like it. Please be honest and let me know if there are real problems and how to fix

They are eBay headlights man...The quality is going to be what youpay for...and it is not that great...If you want to get black housing and halo rings do a cutsom retro fit w/halo rings. Sure its more expensive but the overall quality will be more than 3x better. You can do whatever you want man it's your car and your money.

Well don't get me wrong I don't wanna cheap out on my car. Worst case I can always fall back to my stock headlights! I really don't wanna mod my stock lights at all.

I am just thinking that maybe it would be a fun project. Besides a little $$$ on the ebay lights themselves, what do I really have to loose? If I try and fail and the lights suck that bad then back to stock I go.

How would I got about resealing them better? Is that the only problem that people have is that they are not sealed well? I want to have a set of lights that looks aggressive and what most would call ricey, but I would never get rid of my stock lights. My only question was what about the ebay lights are bad and how could one fix them if they so desired?

Is the projector bad, or do you think this would just be cool? I am open for all positive suggestions short of "don't do it get OEM rice cake" or something like that lol.

As far as sealing, at least in the case of stock lights, it is pretty easy.

I just got some Honda Bond from a local Honda Powersports dealer. Dug out some of the old goo in the headlight and filled it in with new Honda bond. Baked them back together in the oven and it seemed to work pretty well.

Been a year so far and no issues yet.

If you want to take a crack at those headlights, why not? At least that way if you mess something up you only messed up relatively inexpensive ebay lights and not expensive OEM's. Plus if you are going to be hacking them to pieces, ebay lights should be fundamentally fine. You'll have to reseal them and do other work to them anyway.

I see why you have authority here....you can use basic logic haha. Most of the members here seem to think that if it has ebay + headlights in the name it is just a waste. I think I will eventually be a guinea pig for the resealing of ebay headlights and possibly a few other mods as well. I will try that Honda Bond you suggested, thanks! I have a few purchases so it may be about a month until I can do this, but I would be open to any and all suggestions in the meantime.

I have the same idea of buying ebay headlight and play with it. All ebay headlights right now have halos in them which are not my taste. I've been thinking of buying shrouds and replace them halos. Anyone has ever try that yet?

Anyway, GL with your project and let us know how it goes..

Haha, thanks darkrom.

I am considering hacking ebay taillights apart for something special. If I manage to pull off what I have in mind I will be one happy camper. Oh and mah cah will be sessi.

If you don't go for it you'll never know.

I'll do it I just went way overboard with a few projects. I'd be glad to be the guinea pig. I just need to finish up my carputer, my nitrous and stop buying Mugen shift knobs and other such money suckers.

Resealing headlights is as simple as gobbing more silicon on them.

As for replacing the projector, the limiting factor is the (usually) small size of ebay projectors. E46 projectors consequently are recommended for this since they're smaller and fit easier.

I think these look better than OEM or even professional retrofits in terms of sheer aesthetics:

A few people have actually also done the eBay/TSX retro, IIRC. Works fine. Thing is, also, with the eBay headlights, your pretty much set for the style you're buying. Nice thing about the stock stuff is that your shroud and your bezel are still able to be openly interpreted.
