Looking For White Headlight Bulbs 9006

Ive noticed the civics headlight bulbs arent the brightest so i figured I should upgrade to something thats better without spending hundreds of dollars on the retro fits or projectors...

What are some really white headlight bulbs i could replace the stock with?
What brand dont you recommend?

Someone told me about the Halo Platinum Whites but i cannot find them in any local store around here so im open to more suggestions... if you have pictures of the bulbs installed please post so i can see the light output and color etc...

thx 8th

you should get a decent pair of HID's in the stock housing.. people have had some luck with that..

u can get a good pair off Ebay that a lot of members on here have already bought and are happy with.

i just received mine today ; >

If you wanna stick with halogen for a while, you could always try Sylvania SilverStar Ultras:

OSRAM SYLVANIA - SilverStar

I had a pair of SilverStar bulbs in my last car, they worked great. I'm probably going to get SilverStar Ultras for my Si soon to hold me over until I can buy a decent set of HIDs. They're really bright, and the colored glass it uses doesn't sacrifice brightness, like a lot of aftermarket bulbs.

If your want brighter light output you might as well go with HIDs b/c just replacing the bulbs wont make much difference. I got mine of ebay in less than a week for 120 and I love them

HIRs are the best option short of an HID retrofit headlight housing.

You could also try PIAA Xtreme white plus. I had them on my 01 Civic and its better than stock but not a whole lot since its still Halogen. Like what other say, HIR but is pretty much stock looking or HID pnp. But of course, nothing will beat a true retro.

i got bought some and installed it tonight (not driven yet though) - my initial impressions are "damn - i might not need to go get HIDs"

yea their that much noticeable - even when we put in one side the difference was night and day - the silverstars were much whiter and clearer.

i got the regular silverstars not the ultras - they looked too blue

not bad for $40

I just want to point out that color temp of the headlights (ie white, yellow, superwhite, etc) has NOTHING TO DO with actual brightness (how much light is put out, measured in lumens). Many often confuse white light to be brighter... this is NOT TRUE. If you want more light output, it's pretty simple, check the lumens rating, NOT the color rating.

I wanted to see what the commotion about HIR was, so I went ahead and ordered a pair $55 shipped from candlepower.com today. UPS ground from Maryland to California, I'd guess it'll be about a week.

One tip about these 3rd party lights burning out quickly: the bulbs almost always do that because they have contaminants on the surface, usually oil from your fingertips. That's why you often see people changing bulbs while wearing gloves, it's to prevent them from getting anything on the bulb. My personal method is to use my bare hands to mount the bulb into the plug (still trying not to touch the bulb), then right before I put the bulb into the housing, I wipe down the entire bulb surface with a fresh cotton pad soaked in alcohol. I've installed 3 pairs of bulbs inside my last car with this method, and when they burned out (after 1-2 years), it was always the filament inside that burned through, not the bulb exploding.

that is true, but the color also has to "usable light." The higher the color temp the bluer the color and the less usable light is emitted. the names given to the colors by the manufacturers of lights has nothing to do with it. But it is documented that a light that burns at 4,300k is brighter and has greater output than that of the light that burns at 6,000k+. It also depends on what type of filament or metal used in the light. HIDs for example can have the same color temp as a halogen, but produce far more light. When comparing halogen lights, usually the closer you are to 4,300 the more "useful" the light becomes.

OSRAM SYLVANIA - Whiteness and Brightness

Sylvania explains it a little better than I can.

Side note: Blue light tends to fatigue the eyes more than red, or green (used in night vision.) which is odd considering the dash of the R18 is blue...
