The difference between 85122 and 85122+

Here's a shot I took the other day... it's difficult to tell in real-life because the bulbs are so bright, but you can easily see the colour difference in the picture.
Philips 85122 on the left, Philips 85122+ on the right. I bought the bulbs and ballasts on ebay, and I was sent one of each

Anyways, just an FYI to anyone who was wondering about the colour difference. Also, the difference is even more pronouced when the bulbs are mounted in the projectors.

Bump cause I'm curious.

So if I have my facts straight:

85122-----
--More blueish
--4100K
--Look bright white in a projector such as TSX or S2K
--Will eventually turn blue as the bulb "dies"

85122+-----
--More whiteish
--4300K
--Almost have a yellowish tint in a projector such as TSX or S2K. Look like a "really bright halogen"
--Does not turn "blue" as the bulb dies.

Who's running what?

I paid $40/pair of used OEM Phillips bulbs from CustomLightz which, by their pricing, are the 85122. I'm honestly not sure what exactly I got so I'd have to ask Bjorn. I'm just wondering if I have my facts straight and what most people are using.

EDIT: Also, where does the Osram D2S Bulb fall in this? What are the specs?

Fixed! Just had your colour temperatures mixed up. Other than that, everything is right. Also check out striker's link.

I'm using 4300K... I definitely would never go any higher because I don't want to sacrifice any light output.

85122 will color fade and 85122+ will not....
if you like blue color then stick with 85122....but losing lumens...
85122+ does not color change and stay that way...

osram falls below in terms of lumens and have higher K number...

I would try to match unless you like to see 2 different colors.

just out of curiosity, how'd you get your ballast working with out plugging it on your car? i'm trying to figure out a simple way of testing a ballast w/o mounting the dang thing on the car plugging it in to find out it's bad. thanks! sorry it's totally unrelated to the info you posted, but it's definitely good to know.

Yeah, any DC power supply will work, although watch the start-up voltage spike on the ballast. If the power supply isn't much more powerful than the ballast's power consumption, then you may end up blowing fuses or tripping breakers. My power supply can handle 60A DC, so I can test 4 ballasts at once

If you want to learn how to hook up your ballast to an ordinary computer power supply, check out HID Planet's University section...basically their EDU and DIY forum

pretty simple to do...good luck

85122 will be extremely yellow when new and turn to blue as hours are accumulated.
85122+ will be yellow and stay yellow
Osram will start off as halogen yellow when new, turn blue and when theyre about to die, they will be a pinkish/brownish color.
