Talking finally finished my light clearing project today

after some hesitation about tearing apart a $21,000 cars headlights, i finally broke down last weekend and cleared the headlights, man it looks good but i still had the stock bulbs in, so for a week i was worried about cops pulling me over. i got my chrome covered amber bulbs in today and finished the mod. i also put chrome covered amber bulbs in the rear - looks great. see for yourself. so far they have held up to 4 days of rain and 1 pressure washing (no leaks )

after

with blinker on

running lights

rear lights

and just for the heck of it - a side view

sorry about the running light and blinker pics, i'll try to get some night shot later

Looks great. I'm still hesitant myself. Maybe one day I'll break it open and clear mine out.

Looks great. This is the second car I've seen with it done. I'm too chicken too. Plus, my other car is sort of illegal right now so I gotta drive the Si. How long did it take and how much of a pain was it to remove the bumper assembly?

That looks great! How long did you put them in the oven for and at what temp? Does the orange part come out easily once you get the light split apart?

I hate you. I just did the back today, but I don't want to risk ******* up the fronts. As good as it looks, I'm too afraid I'd waste a $150 headlight in the process.

I'm curious if you were able to get the orange rings off of the DRL part. I can't see that well in the pics. :P

here is a link to the dyi i found. the only 2 things that i did different was that i left the black glue in place and i have a band clamp (can get from lowes. its for fixing drawers $15) and after i put the light back together i put the light back in the oven for 8 mins and put the clamp on it and let it cool, this way the black glue would reseal. this project took about 2 1/2 hours. the longest part was baking the headlights. i put them in for about 6-8 mins pulled them 1/2 way apart then baked them for about 3 mins & pulled the the rest of the way off. the only thing i need to add is when you go to pull it apart the second time pull at an angle away from the turn signals, there is a tab that will break if you pull straight out.
Step By Step DIY Clear Headlights
here is the website where i got the bulbs if anyone is interested it cost me $18 bucks for 2 set and about $10 for the rear bulbs
www.autolumination.com - super fast shipping
the bulbs light up amber with the running lights or blinkers on

the eyebrow rings come out very easily once you have the light apart but i left mine in - after looking at it for about 10 mins trying to figure out which looked better i left the rings in. it looked funny without them. but very simple to remove if your into that. the amber corners are screwed in and there is a side reflector the just snaps in place so the hardest part of this dyi is getting the headlights open.

That's an awsome job man, I'm gonna just wait for projector replacements to show on ebay. I'm not chicken, it's just too much work, if I were going to do it, I'd have to throw in projectors while I was at it, and in the end, it'd be nearly as cheep to get new ones...

Also doesn't help that my only friend in this stinking city is my wife, so there is no one to impress as of yet

Cleveland, but it doesn't cost a buttload of cash, you just get the projectors from a junkyard car and then cut holes in your lamps to insert and mount them. It's not too terribly hard, but I'd rather wait untill they come out with pre-made projector drop-ins because you don't have to worry about them leaking and getting all foggy inside... They are also easier to aim. I'm not lazy, I just don't have that much time.

I'm waiting for my chrome bulbs to come in. Got them from autolumination too, but I used a money order. They should be in about thursday or friday.

They look good! Now I can't wait for mine to come in

Nice Job!

Although I would suggest to other people not to bake your headlight but instead use a heat gun. Your headlights are plastic and have the possibility to melt or bend which could casue fitment problems in the end.

Looks better on the GG than the other one that had red. He should've kept the smaller amber sides.

i agree 100% but i hate heat guns - i was scared to death putting them in the oven - but i constantly watched them while they were in - my fear with the heat gun was to not get an even amount of heat on the light - i've had a bad time with a heat gun before...lol
