i don't think you need 55w, but 35w is suffice and has never had any melting issue. I can't vouch for 55w being okay, but there has been stories of melting harnesses or melted housings. Preferably I would be on the safe side and stick with 35w, but if you must have that extra power for that extra light output, its up to you.

Hi,
Most vendors selling 55W HID kits use 50W ballasts and 35W bulbs. They claim that their bulbs are rated up to 60W. What ends up happening is that you overdrive 35W bulbs with the higher wattage bulbs. This will result in the bulbs burning hotter and burning out prematurely. Bulbs running hotter translates into potential damage to your headlight housings. While you may get slightly more light output it does not necessarily mean that you end up getting functional light output as you will end up with more glare (bigger arc). Steve
