Fog lamps protection ???

I currently own a 2006 Civic Ex Coupe, and I've installed the fog lamps kit from Honda OEM. After about 10 days, I realised that one of my lamps was craked, probably done by a small piece of rock on the road. I decided to buy a second fog lamp kit (not OEM) to replace both lamps. It was cheaper to buy a complete kit not OEM instead of buying only 1 spare fog lamp OEM!

After about a month, I realized that both fog lamps were craked. I suspect the cheap quality of the non-OEM lamps, which did not like the temperature difference here in Quebec, during the winter. The lamp can become very hot, and the air temperature stays very cold.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone of you guys have a trick to protect the fog lamps ?? I've bought a spare OEM (99$ US) and will have to find a way to keep them intact ! I was thinking to stick a transparent film on them (3M), but due to high temperature when the lamps are on, I'm not sure about this idea.....

Any suggestion ???

lamin-x.com will solve some problems for ya. the stuff tends to burn but I had it on my fogs for over a year. Currently I have nothing on there but need to get something else.

until a manufacture comes out with a higher tempered glass that can withstand the heat. The lenses will crack all of the time. Both of mine are broken. So I am going the projector route with lexan lens

Those fog lamps are so expensive.....thaat they should be at least the best quality on the market ! A Mazda 3 GT comes standard with higher quality lamps than Honda, and Honda is asking over 400$ US for them !!!!

I hate how my Si loosk without fog lights (any car, for that matter). They should've been standard on EX and Si trims.

Rant aside, I refuse to get the OEM foglights because I've only heard from one or two people that they've not had problems with them. Everyone else has had cracks, chips, and shatterings within weeks (sometimes days) of installing them.

I am not okay with paying 600+ dollars for something made so poorly. You charge me that kind of money, I at least want a warrenty for them.

As someone before said, any "clear-bra" will work just fine. It should really help.

That was my plan until I looked at my fog housing. 1/2 of the chrome is coming off. I guess the water and heat took it off. So now I am going the projector route.

Which ones did you bought ? The OEM ones or some cheaper non-OEM on ebay ? The cheapers ones are poorly built.....and I'm sure that they crack faster then the OEM ones.

on the long run the lexan glass will eventually cloud up and discolor due to the heat also even though its tempered glass lexan tends to scratch easily

But once they are installed, the hole is done in the bumper so you don't have any other choice to put something to fill the hole !

And the lamps are quiet usefull in poor visibility....and they look great !
