Arrow ANYONE have HID's in there FOG's What do you guys think ? ? ? ?

I'm having my lights retrofit done now by customlightz and I was thinknig of getting a set of 3000k HID's for my OEM fog lights.

HAs anyone done this here? WHat do you guys think?

How is the Beam? like the stock beam on the ground????

I would like to have the stock beam set up with the HID's so that the beam is not in other drivers eyes and the FOG light is not up in my HID retrofit projecter Beam.

Thanks.

The stock fogs with the hid bulbs will get the same type of beam pattern but will spread a bit more and go a little further down. But it all depends on how you aim them.

Your fog setup will mix with the headlights since the headlight retro will beam from the cutoff line down to the street. Just aim the fogs a little lower if you dont want them to mix as much.

I've got a customlightz retrofit for my lows, and I've got 4300K HID fogs. It does put out more light. I'm happy with the results... at least until I work on my fog retrofit.

I should update this with fogs only, since I have the K2 harness in there now.

Arrow

Looks like most all the light with the HID's in the Fogs stays very low on the
ground and not up in the projector beams?

ya, it's a good thing that you picked a 4300K instead of a 6000+K. 4300K is definitely brighter than others.

Fog glare...YEAH!!!!!!

So I took some photos of my car tonight after I installed some cosmetic mods (color matched front grill, and 70% rear lights tint [lamin-x]). The Fogs glare everywhere with the standard bulb because of their design (short light pattern, but wide beam angle). Add MORE light with the HID bulbs like with me, and you'll blind more people, but it is enough light to help with corners and above the cutoff. The hot spots are like the headlamps, but they are parallel to the ground and are in a thinner band that wrap around their wide angle. I think the HIDs in the fogs HELP and look waaay better...but I've never seen it stock. I just hate going around corners at pitch-black nighttime and not being able to see. Now you can see...and REALLY WELL!!!! I hear that 3000k HIDs in the fogs not only are great color-wise, but the light output is higher and they are the yellow-only color which is apparently good for fog. You be the judge, but here's my contribution to the discussion:

PS - HIDs in both Low Beams and Fogs from EBAY...take it perfectionist haterz!!!!! :)

I've always seen those rally cars with the huge 8 extra headlamps on their bumpers and wanted to make so much light at night that it was nearer to day-time driving. HID lamps really make that happen, and I'm very happy with my $300 investment!

Let me know if you want any other types of pics.

Took a few more comprehensive shots. I tried to keep them at the same exposure settings as before.

Fog "Cutoff":

HID Fogs Only:

HID Fogs + Lows Warming Up:

HID Fogs + Lows:

Lows Only:

And then from a different distance,

Lows Only:

Lows + HID Fogs Warming Up:

Tim, it looks like you've got your fogs aimed at the ground. the hot spot should be parallel with the lights themselves...right?
